Swarovski Elements to launch Yoko Ono collaboration on Fashion's Night Out

Swarovski has collaborated with Japanese-American conceptual artist Yoko Ono, who has provided the inspiration for a new crystal, cut in the shape of a key, for autumn. Designed around the theme of ‘Unlocking the Door to a Better Life’, the collection aims to symbolise the artist’s hopes and dreams for the planet. Yoko explains: “Imagine a key that unlocks the door to the forest with its secrets, to the sky with its peacefulness, to the universe with its infinity, to a future with a promise for a better life”. The 71mm key on a silver chain (pictured here) is available in Crystal Silver Shade in a limited edition of 1300 pieces, each engraved with Yoko Ono’s signature and its limited edition number.

Additionally, Swarovski has designed a jewellery collection around the ‘key’ theme with pendants in two sizes: the medium-sized 50mm item is embellished with a dangling metal key set off with a crystal chaton; and the adorable 30mm key pendant is on a black cord for a casual look. Both are available either with or without the Yoko Ono signature, with those carrying her logo called ‘Key To Open The Forest’. Each comes in a choice of up to seven colours. The key-cut jewellery, priced from £79 to £230, will be available in selected Swarovski stores in the UK from 6 September - Fashion's Night Out.

Luxury footwear label GINA introduces collection inspired by The Queen's Jubilee and British Olympics

Luxury British ladies shoemaker GINA has developed a capsule collection of Union Jack footwear, to coincide with The Queen’s Jubilee and the British Olympics. The shoes have been exclusively designed using the finest Austrian crystal from Swarosvki arranged in the Union Jack flag colours and style. Six models, on varying heel heights, will be available from mid-April online and from GINA UK stores. The company operates a waiting list for their footwear and advises interested clients to place orders for their shoes as soon as possible, as demand will be high. Prices are available on request.

Friday, November 4, 2011: Rock icons DURAN DURAN, who have made some of the most-watched music videos of all time, have raised the bar yet again with the launch of their latest nine-minute short film, for the song “Girl Panic !”, taken from their recent, critically-acclaimed new album ALL YOU NEED IS NOW.

Directed by award-winning Jonas Åkerlund, this dazzling new video reunites five of the world’s top supermodels: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon with the members of Duran Duran in a short film that was shot in London, in and around The Savoy, over two days earlier this summer.

Made in association with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, this stunning video showcases the performance skills of the five ‘supers’ as they take on the roles of the members of the band, in a day-in-the-life-of expose. Made to top every video of the past, “Girl Panic !” has every ounce of trademark DURAN DURAN humour and glamour.

Bringing their style, irreverence and distinctive personality to each character Naomi Campbell steps up to the mic as lead singer Simon Le Bon, Cindy Crawford strikes a pose as bassist John Taylor, Eva Herzigova embodies keyboardist Nick Rhodes as the only blonde in the band, Helena Christensen rocks out as drummer Roger Taylor and Yasmin Le Bon makes a droll turn as ‘the anonymous guitarist’. While the “real” members of DURAN DURAN cameo as bellhops, waiters, chauffeurs and paparazzi, and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana play guest fashion editors for the day during a photoshoot scene.

The film was produced by Black Dog Films for DURAN DURAN, in association with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, who incorporated not only fashion and jewellery made with the world famous crystals, but also sparkling interior objects, furniture and the Swarovski Crystal Curtain.

Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes, speaking of the project from New York, where the band have just completed a six week US tour said today: “I’d had this crazy idea for a video for the song Girl Panic !, that looked fantastic on paper, but that I thought in reality would be impossible to pull off. The idea was to recreate a day-in-the-life of the band, with five of the world’s greatest supermodels playing all of us. At the time, I had no idea what would be involved in making it happen, but we talked to Jonas about it and he loved the basic concept and wanted to develop it into something really unique – and so it all began.”

Duran Duran lead singer Simon Le Bon added: “We have made some pretty ambitious videos over the years, but this one was certainly the most challenging to date. Coordinating the schedules of five of the world’s biggest supermodels, Jonas, and the band was no easy task – but we couldn’t be happier with the finished film. It has all of the ingredients that we feel are important – it’s humorous, glamorous, sexy and very Duran Duran.

Bassist John Taylor continues “We teamed up with Swarovski Elements, who provided some incredible pieces for the video that brought a real beauty to it. When you look for partners on something like this, you need to find people who really fit with the aesthetic of what you’re trying to do, and with Swarovski I think it was the perfect match, as they represent quality, glamour and absolute glitz!!

The “Girl Panic !” video comes hot on the heels of DURAN DURAN’s, sold out North American Fall tour which has garnered some of their finest reviews to date. The digital version of ALL YOU NEED IS NOW hit #1 on the iTunes Albums Charts in 15 countries before the release of the 14-track LP earlier this year. Duran Duran has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide throughout their career.

I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH........STARS AND LEATHER!!

I have fallen head over heels in love with this Tomasz Donocik leather star bracelet I saw whilst attending the Wolf and Badger anniversary party.
