OMEGA Speedmaster Mark II "Rio 2016"

Yesterday marked exactly two years till the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games! We’re counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the Opening Ceremony!

The Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016” is a tribute to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the chronograph’s unique dial evokes the feelings of glory and triumph that those very same athletes will experience when they take their place on the podium.

Inspired by the 1969 model of the original OMEGA Speedmaster Mark II, the polished and brushed stainless steel case is barrel-shaped and has a polished crown and pushers. Beneath a flat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a matt black dial featuring a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The sub-dials are decorated with a bronze ring, 18K yellow gold ring and 925 silver ring respectively – a design that recalls the medals awarded to Olympic champions.  

The transparent tachymeter scale on the sapphire crystal is illuminated from beneath by an aluminium ring filled with Super-LumiNova. The varnished white and black hour and minute hands, chronograph seconds hand and hour markers are also coated with Super-LumiNova, making it possible to read the time in a variety of lighting conditions. The Speedmaster Mark II is the first watch in OMEGA’s collection that makes it possible for the wearer to see the tachymeter scale in the dark.

The screw-in caseback is stamped with the logo of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and is engraved with “Si14”, “Column Wheel” and the limited edition number of the wristwatch – only 2,016 pieces of this model will be produced.

The polished and brushed stainless steel bracelet is complete with OMEGA’s patented screw-and-pin design and a foldover rack-and-pusher clasp. The length of the bracelet can be adjusted by releasing the outer clasp and sliding the inner clasp.

The Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016” is powered by the OMEGA calibre 3330 equipped with an Si14 silicon balance spring and a Co-Axial escapement with three levels. The reliability delivered with the combination of these exclusive components is such that your timepiece is offered with a full four-year warranty. 

The Speedmaster Mark II “Rio 2016” is water resistant to 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet) and is offered in a special presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.

Fred Perry & Bradley Wiggins launch second collection

Fred Perry has introduced the second collection from Britain’s first ever Tour de France winner and one of the most decorated British Olympians, Bradley Wiggins. Following on from debut SS12 collection, two early release styles will be launched online on Thursday this week. The first drop in August will see classic pieces such as the long sleeve cotton pique shirt updated with specially designed Bradley stripe and a rear hem pocket complete with a sports heritage style zip. The classic cotton pique shirt will return in three new colours: black, olive and enamel blue. Slim fit half zip merino wool shirts with drop hem and GB Stripe detail will be available for later in the year. A preview evening to celebrate the launch of the first AW12 Bradley Wiggins drop will be held at five selected Fred Perry shops in Nottingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Brighton and Paris on the 22 August from 7-9pm. Meeting Henry Cavill

So Sunday night at the Omega House Olympics Closing ceremony I finally met the new Superman Henry Cavill...

As the Official timekeeper of the London 2012 Olympics, Omega threw the parties of all parties to celebrate. Now I've spotted Henry at the house over the time Omega House was open but I'm going to be totally honest didn't know who he was until I was ales to get some pictures for the Henry Cavill fan club and let him know that they had sent him a little something.



So here we are I gave the fan club the exclusive now I will share it with you. BTW what a nice man we hung out for a while as he is a friend of a friend and spoke of many interesting subjects .

I love the Olympics. I watch everything. It’s so dramatic and inspiring. I don’t just say it, I live it. I’ve been over here with Omega and it’s just so amazing – I went to watch the beach volleyball and some of the gymnastics. It kills me that I wasn’t able to stay to watch the swimming because it’s my favourite event. I’ve grown up watching swimming – in Australia that’s our big sport. The swimming is such a huge part of our culture. I remember our relay boys – ‘The Mean Machine’ – and when those guys won gold in 1980 they were heroes.

My favourite Olympic moment is Cathy Freeman winning the 400m gold in Sydney 2000. It’s got to be a woman. It’s got to be winning the gold. And when track is at its best it’s just unbeatable. I was watching it in Spain when I was making The Others. It was an amazing feat for her.

My favourite Olympians are Phelps and Lochte. I love watching the battle between them – they’re both amazing. It’s superhuman, like watching fish. The battle is extraordinary.

Olympic stars and OMEGA brand ambassadors heptathlete Jessica Ennis, pole vaulter Jenn Suhr and sprinter Tyson Gay spent time at the OMEGA House on Wednesday to answer questions on their Olympic experience and what awaits them down the track.

Jessica Ennis, the 26-year-old British sports star, is the face of Team GB during the London 2012 Olympic Games. She dazzled the world last week when she took home gold in the heptathlon competition, winning with a score that not only set her personal best, but a national record as well. She was recognized as one of the dominant athletes of her generation after winning the World and European Championships in the heptathlon as well as a World Indoor Championship in pentathlon.

Jessica Ennis said she was nervous for her competition, but felt prepared at the same time: “I was very much aware that I had to go out there and do it and deliver. There are so many things that can go wrong during the heptathlon so I just wanted to stay really focused. Obviously I believed in myself but I didn’t want to take anything for granted and get carried away”.

As the person standing on top of the podium, brand ambassador Jessica Ennis is very aware of the importance the timekeeping system has in Olympic events. “Those fractions of time make such a huge difference. And it’s great to have OMEGA that has supported us for so long, especially here in London”, she said. “To be an OMEGA ambassador is really special”.

American pole vaulter Jenn Suhr has again established herself as the world’s top-ranked women’s in her sport. On Monday night, the OMEGA brand ambassador claimed gold when she cleared 4.75m in the women’s Pole Vault competition; she is also recognized as the U.S. women’s pole vault record-holder.

Jenn Suhr has been appreciating her victory and taking the time to absorb the experience: “I want to keep the moment as long as I can,” she said. “It’s been fabulous; the whole experience has been amazing. The crowd has lifted me up through the whole thing.”

Tyson Gay, American 100m sprinter, embodies the determined charismatic characteristics that OMEGA treasures in its ambassadors. He is a prime example of what the human body can accomplish when pushed to the limits. In the time leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the world’s sporting media and track and field fans were focused on Tyson’s every move – his wind-aided 9.68 second performance in the 100-metre trials was the fastest time ever recorded for the distance.

“My experience has had some ups and downs. Right now, I’m looking back on the upside”, said OMEGA ambassador Tyson Gay. “Not medaling was a downer for me, but I’m looking forward to the 4x100m Relay”.

Last night at Omega House all eyes were on stunning Jessica Ennis the ultimate poster girl for British sport.... she looked so relaxed sipping on a glass of champagne which was well deserved, its now full steamahead for her with her wedding which she put on hold for the Olympics.... The atmosphere at Omega House was relaxed as always and the evening brought in some big names.  I hung out with R&B singer Lemar for a while what a nice man! that was my first time meeting him and I only have praise for him.... Gethin Jones, Gethin Jones where for art thou Gethin Jones.... the bulk of my evening was in the of  company  of Gethin Jones we talked TV, we talked workouts, breakfast TV and of course the lottery... if you want me to spill beans on that other subject Im saying nothing because I asked nothing.... It was great bumping into model and all round girl about town Tolula Adeyemi, who was setting the dancefloor on fire .....Tyson Gay US 100m athlete is truly a sportmans as hewas in the mix of the party but could not keep his eyes off the screen great to see a sportsman in love with his sport 24 7....

OMEGA House welcomed one of Team GB’s most celebrated athletes, Jessica Ennis (wearing McQueen), Greg Rutherford, 100 metre finalist Tyson Gay and pole vault champion Jenn Suhr, to celebrate their recent successes amongst a host of friends, athletes and VIPs. Following her recent gold medal which has catapulted her into a new realm of stardom, Jessica Ennis mixed with guests whilst enjoying an evening at one of London’s hottest Olympic venues for athletes, celebrities and members alike.

Musical entertainment was provided by DJ’s Jack Guinness and Lou Hayter, whilst guests were treated to sumptuous canapés and Tanqueray No. TEN ‘Tiny Ten’ cocktails.

Laura Carmichael was seen dancing the night away with fellow Downton cast members whilst congratulating a very dapper Olympian, Greg Rutherford whilst onlookers revelled as he produced his acclaimed gold Medal to adoring fans in the speedmaster room.

MY FAVOURITE OLYMPIC MOMENT - DAVID GANDY

For some reason my greatest Olympics memory is Daley Thompson winning gold at the 1984 Games in the decathlon. However, if my awful maths is correct, that would make me four years of age, so I very much doubt I would have been watching or remember the event. But to me Daley Thompson doing his triumphant back flip is such an iconic image – shown over and over again – that it’s ingrained on my mind.

When I read about the ’84 Los Angeles Olympics I realise just how special Thompson had to be and how hard he had to work to defend his title against his great rival, the world record holder Jürgen Hingsen.

Thompson seemed very likeable and charming, with a huge personality, and that endeared him to people.

I understand now that he was quite controversial in many respects. He seems to have been dismissive of the press, and uttered an obscenity on live television when he was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

If anything, this has made me like him just that little bit more. We should still be as proud of him today as we were in 1984.

I've been around some of the most amazing people from Hollywood superstars to astronauts, singers, athletes and press fromAround the world I can honestly say I've met some of the greatest people in earth right now and who are Making a change and thanks to super brand Omega. One such person is the delightful, charming, easy to talk to Olympic silver medallist Louis Smith


I congratulated him On his success and he has to be one of the most humble guys in British Olympics or the world of Olympics right now. I manage to spend a little time with him and what you imagine him to be he is that and some.


So I thought I would share one of my pictures with you of Louis and myself at Omega House in London at the Michael phelps and swimming legends cocktail party. This evening humbled me and made me truly blessed for what I have managed to achieve in life so far.........
