'TOAST 15' Anniversary Collection

This autumn, British clothes and homewares brand TOAST celebrate their 15th anniversary with a small, partially retrospective collection: a handful of very limited edition pieces, inspired by the TOAST archives or freshly conceived, using either Indian artisanal or British fabrics and manufacture.

TOAST co-founder and Creative Director James Seaton travelled to markets and small fabric shops in India to select hand-woven silks, cottons and muslins for the collection, choosing to make only as many pieces as the fabric he found would allow. Mixing these finds with British woven wools and cashmere, he worked alongside artisans and specialists in India and the UK - and, in the case of shoes, Italy.

Highlights from the collection include a wool crepe dress with a kantha stitched peter pan collar in muga silk and an open back fastened with silk covered buttons; a pair of pyjamas in super-light, double layer Dacca muslin with muga silk trim; a long coat in Scottish woven pin-stripe wool with a silk lining that varies from coat to coat (herringbone silk, vintage sari, Benares brocade); and a UK woven cashmere djellaba.

Presented in a range of blacks, old whites and palest natural golds TOAST 15 also comprises three shirts in hand woven tussah silk or khadi cotton with hand stitched detailing, a kantha stitched, hand woven tussah silk top, two jackets - one Indian made, the other UK made – and a coat, each with the same varied silk linings as the long coat, a cashmere wrap cardigan, patent leather derbys and two scarves.
This is a thoughtful and carefully created collection of design without the usual commercial strictures and in the loveliest fabrics, that manages to celebrate TOAST’s triumphs from the past fifteen years whilst keeping a firm eye on the future and making the most of the best craftsmanship available – all values that remain at the heart of the TOAST ethos.
