Omega House burst into life last night with the London 2012 Olympic Games officially underway. Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban crowned a stellar guest list of VIPs to break the ice at the Swiss luxury watchmaker’s spectacular pop-up club at The House Of St Barnabas in Soho.

Crowds gathered outside the venue as the VIPs arrived to enjoy the evening’s events, discuss the day’s sporting events, and crossed their fingers for signs of that first medal for Great Britain. Many were stunned by the transformation of the house.

Actor Eddie Redmayne said: ‘I walk around Soho all the time and you would never know there was such a beautiful place with a garden like it. It feels like a different part of London completely.’

Adventurer and TV presenter Ben Fogle agreed. ‘It’s such an incredible vibe,’ he said. ‘The garden is the perfect place to watch it all happen.’ Guests feasted on canapés and drank champagne as magician Dynamo entertained the crowds with some truly jaw-dropping tricks. Jarvis Cocker manned the decks and played a suitably sporty set as guests soaked up the party mood. Model and TV presenter Jodie Kidd was impressed. ‘It’s just perfect, it’s such a perfect house anyway, but the rooms are wonderful,’ she enthused.

Fashion designer Henry Holland declared: ‘I used the house for an aftershow once but it didn’t look like this. What Omega have done is just incredible and it really puts you in the mood for the whole Olympics.’
