GENERATION CHANGE
TOMS and Dazed collaborate on a documentary film competition for inspired UK filmmakers
TOMS Shoes was founded in 2006 after Blake Mycoskie had the idea to create a philanthropic footwear company that would match every pair of shoes bought with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. It was an inspired trip to Argentina that was the catalyst for the One for One movement, and a year after launching in Los Angeles, Mycoskie returned to Argentina for the inaugural TOMS Shoe Drop, packing 10,000 pairs of the label’s signature slip on espadrilles for the kids.
Earlier this year TOMS launched One for One Eyewear, where sales of TOMS glasses gives sight to people in Cambodia, Nepal, Tibet, Ethiopia, Egypt, Guatemala, Pakistan, India, the United States, Paraguay and Bangladesh, through prescription glasses, sight saving surgery or medical treatment.
Inspired by individuals and collectives who are doing something that matters, TOMS and Dazed are partnering on a new creative film project called Generation Change, asking UK-based filmmakers to submit a treatment for a short three minute film exploring British Change Makers. Judged by TOMS, Dazed and acclaimed British director Lucy Walker (Waste Land, The Tsunami and The Cherry Blossom). The winner will receive £5,000 to make their film for TOMS and be featured on Dazed Digital.
Submissions are open now and the closing deadline is Tuesday 14th August. All details are below.
