Autumn / Winter 2016
“The truth of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time.”
David Bowie
Chronostasis the AW16 collection by knitwear couturier Lyonard explores the concepts of temporal illusion best known as the stopped-clock phenomenon.
Presenting a snapshot of a moment in time revealing an ethereal picture of the zeitgeist as perceived by Lyonard. Silhouettes have been inspired by David Bowie’s admiration of Japanese style, creating androgynous, eerie, rebelliously glamorous garments. Stemming from Berlinde de Bruyckere’s dark and broody installations, the pieces give the wearer’s body a feel of motion frozen in time.
Inspired by Ian Davenport’s drip painting and Bridget Riley’s opt illusion art the collection Chronostasis features hand-painted woven British wool, knitted raw Japanese mulberry silk and finest Italian Cashmere in crimson reds, electric blues and gunmetal greys.
Completing the story are fedoras and headpieces adorned with Swarovski Elements crystals and fine silk hat-bands.
