EVISU Spring Summer 2016 Collection The Time Traveller

EVISU Spring Summer 2016 Collection
The Time Traveller

For Spring Summer 2016, EVISU embarks on a bit of time travel as it jets to the future and borrows from the past. The new collection features EVISU Clan, a collection that pays tribute to EVISU’s Japanese heritage through samurai-influenced silhouettes, sporty shapes, and bold graphics; and Future Fusion, a range of digitally inspired looks that play with distortion, colours, and innovative fabrics. The quintessential EVISU spirit pervades the season as quality and craftsmanship is once again cleverly juxtaposed with a sense of humour and an irreverent, carefree attitude.

EVISU Clan draws its inspiration from traditional Japan, referencing the revered samurai and the martial art form of kendo. Longline silhouettes, voluminous shapes, and functional sportswear dominate the collection, while unique detailing and innovative fabric treatments add a modern touch to individual pieces. For the men, the EVISU Clan collection goes neo-samurai this season, featuring new, roomier shapes as seen on the loose-cut hoodie jacket, as well as a selection of wide-leg pants and loose-cut joggers. The “athleisure” theme runs through the collection with reinterpreted sportswear pieces crafted in sporty fabrics such as neoprene mesh and cotton terry, and enhanced with functional details including mesh pockets and water repellent zippers. Bold graphics, prints, and fonts make a powerful style statement as they are presented on both classic and new silhouettes. Celebrating the arrival of spring is a new digital Japanese floral print featuring the symbolic cherry blossoms, which is splashed across a variety of items including the souvenir jacket, low-rise shorts, pocket tees, shirts, and EVISU’s signature DAICOCK jeans. An allover EVISU logo pattern also takes centre stage on the zip-up functional jacket, logo print tee, shorts, DAICOCK jeans, and wide-leg pants, while stripes return this season in dark indigo and ecru for a sporty chic vibe. The women’s range offers a wide array of “longline” pieces that features extended hemlines, including a sophisticated lightweight wind coat, a longline dress with patchwork detailing, an elongated souvenir jacket, as well as an ombré shirt with a detachable hem for added versatility. Denim returns for the warmer season in new shapes as well, with dip-dye denim culottes, a reversible A-line denim skirt, and boyfriend jeans all elevating an old classic in fresh, new ways. The women’s collection also offers an enticing selection of well-designed pieces that combines leisure and athletic wear. Functional yet fashionable detailing injects a hint of uniqueness to this range of elevated sportswear. The collection’s wind jackets feature feminine pleat details at the back, as does the “punched blouse”, which also boasts perforated fabric on the sleeves for a sporty accent. Mesh is used liberally throughout the range as a nod to sportwear, and is seen on the mesh mixed blouse, tank tops with double mesh collars, printed “mesh blocking” sweatpants, and mesh trimmed shorts. Embossed glossy badges and graphics boxed in within borders add a final dash of sportiness to the collection.

Future Fusion is an exploration of technology, digital art, and futuristic fashion. Deconstruction and distortion reign supreme: fabrics and colours are mixed and matched together in playful and unexpected ways, while graphics are pixelated and warped, recalling computer glitches and old-school graphics of yesteryear. The men’s collection is a vibrant affair, featuring pixelated graphics bathed in sharp hues of blue, beetrootflame red, lime green, and turquoise. Allover patterns and bold graphics inject a modern edge to the range, as seen through the collection’s pixel-filled DAICOCK raw jeans, pixel monogram denim shorts and printed tees, pixel-accented zip-up hoodies and sweatpants, and “pixel camouflage” sweatshirts, tanks, and shorts. Unique colour and fabric blocking play on the theme of distortion as well, channelling an unexpected playfulness that adds a new dimension to the concept of casualwear. This is perfectly executed in the range’s colour blocked souvenir denim hybrid jacket and joggers, as well as the “pixel camouflage” printed pocket shirts. The women’s range features the two-toned “deconstructed cut” denim jacket and boyfriend jeans, which may be paired together for a powerful statement or worn individually for a more laid-back take on the trend. The colour-blocked denim shorts challenge the rules of fashion with EVISU’s iconic seagull back pockets sewn to the front against “misplaced” patches, matching perfectly with a lightweight sweatshirt emblazoned with the collection’s “glitchy” graphic. Distorted prints and graphics grace a variety of tees and trousers, as seen on the range’s Future Fusion tee with exaggerated fringe detail, red and blue fabric appliqué sweatshirts, as well as cotton terry sweatpants. The sharpness of the “Future Fusion” collection is tempered by a selection of sheer items that balances sporty shapes with a soft femininity. The pixel jacquard burn-out souvenir jacket and culottes offer a sophisticated take on the futuristic digital theme, while the loose-fit, lightweight bomber jacket adds a touch of casual femininity to any springtime ensemble.

Season after season, EVISU continues to surprise and inspire as it pushes the boundaries of fashion in innovative, new ways. Balancing the brand’s commitment to traditional quality and craftsmanship with a youthful, carefree attitude, EVISU’s Spring Summer 2016 collection presents another season of reinvented classics that redefines the standard for modern-day streetwear.
