Giorgio Armani collaborated with costume designer April Ferry to create the style and wardrobe for the character of Secretary Delacourt, played by Jodie Foster, in “Elysium,” the highly anticipated film from TriStar Pictures in association with Media Rights Capital, in theaters August 9th. This marks the first-time partnership for Giorgio Armani with Ferry, who was nominated for the Academy Award® for her work on “Maverick,” and the director/writer, Neill Blomkamp, who received multiple Academy Award® nominations for his work on “District 9.”
Foster wears select Giorgio Armani suits throughout the film. Secretary Delacourt’s wardrobe consists of a jacket and skirt in pewter, featuring exaggerated lapels, as well as a one-button shawl collar pant suit in soft grey. A chocolate brown leather dress and a one-button peak lapel blazer in bronzed metallic with copper tone silk pants also hint at the character underneath. A classic cream sleeveless shift dress with embroidered micro square details and matching one-button shawl collar jacket complete the silhouettes.
Giorgio Armani notes: “Working with visionaries like Neill Blomkamp and April Ferry on such an intriguing project is a privilege. But my real personal pleasure with ‘Elysium’ was to be given the honor of outfitting my longtime friend, Jodie Foster. She remains one of my favourite actresses. I admire her work, her talent, her life. In the film, I’m captivated by how she personifies the world of 2154 while also making my designs utterly timeless.”
Ferry added, “We are grateful to Giorgio Armani for delivering a unique, stylish look for Secretary Delacourt. His clean, tailored design is a perfect match for the pristine, hermetic world of Elysium – and his long collaboration with Jodie Foster made it an easy decision. The result was a wardrobe that was just right for the character, the actress, and the film.”
In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well. Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp. The QED International / Alphacore / Kinberg Genre production is produced by Bill Block, Neill Blomkamp, and Simon Kinberg.
Giorgio Armani has been on the forefront of creating wardrobes for major motion pictures since he pioneered the movement by dressing Richard Gere in “American Gigolo” in 1980. Since then, hundreds of films have incorporated designs by Giorgio Armani, including “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Untouchables,” “Gattaca,” “Stealing Beauty,” “Shaft,” “The Tuxedo,” “De-Lovely,” “Ocean’s Thirteen,” “Fair Game,” “The Social Network,” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”
