EXCLUSIVE - DOLCE&GABBANA OPEN NEW STORE ON LONDON'S BOND STREET

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in London with British GQ

Saturday 15th June 2013 see another new landmark for italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana as they open their fourth Dolce&Gabbana boutique in London with an event that will be part of the official London Collections: Men’s calendar during which the Summer 2014 Tailoring Collection for men will be presented.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dolce&Gabbana to London Collections: Men, and we are delighted that they are opening this season with such a high-profile event. London welcomes Domenico and Stefano and hope they decide to have an event here every season.” Dylan Jones, Editor in Chief – British GQ

Italian and English sartorial traditions meet and blend in a new, one-of-a-kind space, designed and created exclusively for London and located at 53-55 New Bond Street.

The new store is part of a new strategy which sees the creation of special stores that each have unique identities of the cities they are located at...... did you see the New York Store launch??

Of recent brands are opening uber stores thats what I like to call them they are bigger and better and offer great space for entertaining... one particular brand actually holds concerts in store and another has a secret garden....

“London has always been one of the cities we love the most. It’s not by chance that we have decided to open this particular store here. British sense of style is part of their DNA, it’s been part of their culture for ages. Just like in Italy. When Dylan invited us to come, we couldn’t say no!”

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana

This is not to be missed!!!

Dolce&Gabbana boutiques in London are located at 6 (menswear) and 175 (womenswear) Sloane Street and at 6/8 Old Bond Street (menswear and womenswear).

Kirk Originals Wins at Optician Awards!

Kirk Originals are delighted to announce that their flagship store at 6 Conduit St, London W1 has won The Optician Awards Fashion Frames Practice of the Year 2012.

This prestigious industry award comes on the back of two retail design awards for the space and in the same year that they celebrate twenty years of innovation in optics.

Nestled between the bustling Regent Street and the designer labels of Bond St, this ground breaking store is the only place in the world to view the entire Kirk Originals collection as well as selected designers who are not found elsewhere in the UK. There is eye testing on site and all of this in a relaxed and fashionable environment.

"Buying glasses should be fun like any fashion purchase. Naturally the medical advice needs to be spot on but so does the styling," said designer, Karen Kirk

Jason Kirk added "when you look at what people spend on shoes, we always found it surprising that people did not have more frames. Perhaps it was because historically there was not the choice nor the environment in which to buy them. Thankfully all that has changed."

The store is open seven days a week and well worth checking out, whether you wear glasses or not.

Calvin Klein Collection - Madison Avenue Hol11 Windows - Nathaniel Rackowe

CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION
UNVEILS 2011 HOLIDAY WINDOWS & INSTALLATION
Unique Work of Artist Nathaniel Rackowe Featured In-store

The Calvin Klein Collection store on Madison Avenue has unveiled a unique artistic installation as the centerpiece of the store’s annual holiday display which explores substance, form and light.

The one-of-a-kind installation was conceived by British artist Nathaniel Rackowe. Mr. Rackowe, who was introduced to the company by Dale Rozmiarek, Senior Vice President, Creative Services, Calvin Klein, Inc., is known for his large scale sculptural works, combining light with urban and industrial materials, designed to interact with their surrounding architectural environment. Drawing from Minimalism’s attention to the relationship between viewer, object, and space, and fusing the structural codes and material outcomes of Modernism, Mr. Rackowe’s works often transform viewers into active participants.

This latest work, entitled “Black Beacon,” stretches 60 feet in length and weighs one metric ton (1000kg), making it the largest sculpture Mr. Rackowe has undertaken. The sculpture – which took months to fabricate in his London studio before shipping it to New York City to reassemble -- consists of a massive steel frame suspended from only three points in the ceiling above the store’s pristine main floor. Honeycomb card panels, painted with viscose black bitumen on the outside and lime green on the inside, are attached along the external sides. Each of the panels are tilted open at different angles to reveal a single powerful arc of light traveling back and forth, across the entire length of the considerable structure. As the beam passes through the openings between the linear rail of panels, streams of light spill out and spread across the walls of the space.

“Black Beacon is my largest and most ambitious artwork to date,” said Mr. Rackowe. “Drawing from the cities and urban environments that I move through each day, I created this immersive work as a reflection of those experiences and a study in finding transcendental beauty in the most unforgiving of surroundings.”

The impressive steel sculpture and windows will remain on view through January 3, 2012 at the Calvin Klein Collection flagship store located at 654 Madison Avenue in New York City.

Inspired by urban environments, Mr. Rackowe’s aim is to capture and distill some of the unexpected beauty that he finds in the hard landscape of the city. Hung at a slight angle, an amazing view of “Black Beacon” is afforded from outside the space on Madison Avenue. From this vantage, it is possible to look inside the full length of the sculpture and see the light bulb as it slowly tracks towards the viewer.
