Inspired by the values that brought flair and style to the world of ski and tennis courts, combined with the technically advanced, water proof garments derived from the harsh wet Scandinavian winters is born the collaboration between Elka and ellesse.
Scandinavian minimalism and Italian history and flare brings the Glacier Jacket for AW16.
The Elka story began in Karup, Denmark in 1958, it was born from developing technically advanced, water proof garments for protection from the harsh wet Scandinavian winters.
Elka’s products have been tried and tested for over 50 years using its relationship with the Danish deep sea fishing communities scattered around Denmark’s rugged coast lines.
Elka continues in the same spirit today after being launched on the fashion scene in 2007 with a number of collaborations with Ms. Rei Kawakubo of the Japanese brand Comme des Garçons and in 2009, with Danish design company Norse Projects. The Elka x Norse Projects rainwear collection is an ongoing success.
The ellesse penguin branding was first used in 1967 when the revolutionary jet ski pant was launched. Initially the penguin was printed on hang tags but ellesse founder Leonardo Servadio had the revolutionary idea to produce the penguin in rubber and stitch it on the thigh of the pants. In 1969 ellesse sponsored the famous Italian ski team nicknamed ‘the Italian avalanche’. Great athletes such as Gustav Thoeni and Erwin Stricker were proud to wear the ellesse jet ski pants emblazoned with the penguin logo. Leonardo Servadio bought two real penguins named Giorgino and Ettore that he used to take with him watching the Italian team. In 1975 ellesse launched the ‘semipalla’ branding that merged ski and tennis in one logo.
The Glacier jacket by Elka & ellesse will be available in 3 colours from late September at selected retailers.
