This evening HAIZHENWANG showcased his SS16 collection as the key representative for China, as part of the British Fashion Council x Shanghai Fashion Week showcase and exhibition. The show was the pre-launch to London Fashion Week SS16 season.
Proportions that disturb balance are at the core of Haizhen Wang’s SS16 collection where everything unbalances the normal to dramatic effect.
This season, Haizhen Wang studies the tipping point of balance in design; that moment a designer makes a small change that dramatically changes a garment. Altering proportions through his use of colours and fabrics and superimposing lines to create space and volume become significant. These adjustments cause a larger, more important change aesthetically at the crucial moment where a garment is transformed from ordinary to extraordinary.
A small selection of menswear will follow the women’s looks with a focus on plaid across the collections. Details include drawstring, tape, and superimposition of fabrics, which increase the richness of garment textures. Including the men’s looks as part of the show is another way for Haizhen to create contrast to a collection of opposites which teeters on an edge; great pieces are formed of instabilities in design.
