TOGA SPRING/SUMMER 2016
“PETALS, MINERALS, SQUIGGLES”
Minerals and plants simply exist on land and in the sea.
No amount of calculation can replicate their colours, forms, or scents.
Their intense appearances are at once beautiful, nocuous and fragile.
Flowers and rocks with seemingly artificial forms seduce us and time dissipates.
The collection evokes the mystery of nature — spangles are embroidered tightly to resemble scales.
Undulating silk cord embroideries hint at cockscombs.
Nepenthes Truncata are recalled in large ruffles, materials are collated and bonded like seaweed on the shore, and the embroidered and printed tulle is reminiscent of the ethereal floating colours of jellyfish.
With attentive detailing and fabric innovation, this collection doesn’t replicate nature, but is inspired by it in order to create a collection that will capture the imagination of the endlessly curious TOGA woman.
