#ONESHOT - One Chance, One Shot with Boxfresh

In 2014, one of the UK’s best loved street wear brands will celebrate its 25th anniversary.  It’s a defining chapter for the iconic, London born brand known for its high-quality product and cutting edge design. To celebrate, Boxfresh will be putting on 25 incredible UK events ranging from parties, raves to art exhibitions and much more.  Names confirmed include MJ Cole, Wookie and Josh Stika; who will all be on hand to host the exciting celebrations.  Boxfresh grew from humble beginnings and its connection with youth culture is still what it lives and breathes by today. Each unique event will be inspired by this creativity and innovation and involve a huge and diverse range of curators and collaborators.

Kicking off the celebrations in January 2014 will be a headline photography competition entitled‘One Shot’, which will crown not only a winner, but the official Boxfresh photographer for ‘25’, judged by an expert panel. The once in a lifetime prize will consist of a job with Boxfresh; one of the greatest opportunities provided by a fashion brand, as well as documenting the brand’sjourney as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The role will be based in London but will involve many opportunities to travel and visit some of the most underground and up and coming venues, events as well as working with some of the freshest and diverse collaborators ranging from designers to DJs. Working with the creative platform Talenthouse, this unique opportunity will provide the winner with both marketing and creative experience of how a brand works.

The brief is simple; entrants will be asked to submit five photographs which embody Boxfresh’s passion for youth culture, style and music; supported with a reason for each shot and what camera was used. The entrants will then vote for their favourite portfolio on social.  The expert judging panel will then shortlist 5-6 entrants, who will be invited to the Boxfresh headquarters in London.  In addition the highest voted entry will receive a bursary of £500.

Making up the expert panel will be British photographer, Ewen Spencer, world renowned for documenting sub cultures and youth movements; something which Boxfresh remains synonymous with today and Telegraph Magazine’s Director of Photography, Cheryl Newman. Both of the judges’ experiences will provide a compelling and inspiring comment to each of the entrant’s pieces, as well as motivating the submissions.  To round off the judging panel, will be Head of Global Marketing Jade Garrow, who will ensure the entries epitomise the heartland of the brand and exactly what Boxfresh stands for.

Born in Newcastle, Ewen Spencer’s passion lies within documenting youth and sub culture movements; often providing a raw, voyeuristic quality to his pieces.  Spencer began his career working for style, music and culture magazines such as "The Face (magazine)" The Face and  "Sleazenation" Sleazenation and has since worked on numerous projects, defining himself as one of the leading social documentarians in the UK, as well as making films for the likes of  Massive Attack and The Streets.

Cheryl Newman is the photographic director at the award-winning ‘Telegraph on Saturday’ Magazine. One of the leading broadsheet magazines in the UK; the title is known for its serious support of photography and showcasing some of the greatest photographers working today.

After six weeks of submitting entries, the public will be encouraged to vote over a course of a week with the winner being announced on 14th March 2014. To enter, simply visit the Boxfresh Facebook page or the Talenthouse website.

Boxfresh aims to seek out trends and movements before they reach the surface.  Tapping into local and global scenes to connect with what’s current, credible and exciting for young people in fashion, style, art and music.  This competition will provide someone with an incredible platform to facilitate this.
