GIORGIO ARMANI - PARIS PHOTO LOS ANGELES, 26 - 28 April 2013

PARIS PHOTO LOS ANGELES
26 - 28 APRIL 2013

For the third year running, Giorgio Armani will be supporting Paris Photo, a leading international photography fair that this year, for the first time ever, will also be held, from 26th to 28th of April, in the historic Paramount studios in Los Angeles, a city symbolising contemporary art and culture.

During the event, in his capacity as official partner, Giorgio Armani will present the exclusive “ACQUA #3” exhibition, a collection of unpublished photographs taken by the photographer Jim Goldberg in Haiti.

Giorgio Armani specifically chose Goldberg, a versatile, all-round artist, to capture snapshots of life in Haiti. The result is a collection of highly striking colour and black and white photos in which it is clear how water, whether from the springs, rivers or the ocean, constitutes the fulcrum of social life for the island’s population, transmitting a sense of beauty and profound hope, despite the poverty and terrible earthquake that have ravaged the land.

Water supply is a social commitment that Giorgio Armani has already endorsed through the “Acqua for Life” project initiated in 2011, through which over 95 million litres of drinking water have been provided in Ghana and Bolivia, in collaboration with Green Cross International (Unicef in the United States). In 2013, Acqua For Life will be continuing its activities, joining forces with the J/P Haitian Relief Organization, the non-profit organisation founded by Sean Penn with the mission of saving lives and bringing sustainable programs to the Haitian people quickly and effectively.

Jim Goldberg is a Professor of Art at the California College of Arts and Crafts and a member of Magnum Photos. He has been exhibiting for over 30 years and his innovative use of image and text make him a landmark photographer of our times.
