World Renowned Photographer John Russo Announces Fragrance Launch
John Russo’s “Photograph” debuts
Usually planted firmly behind a camera snapping photos of the world’s biggest stars and fashion icons, John Russo is now stepping into the spotlight himself with the release of his debut fragrance John Russo’s “Photograph.” The scents – his and hers – which draw from Russo’s favorite luxury notes, were painstakingly formulated and reformulated for three long years until finally Russo reached the perfect blends. Russo’s goal in creating the ‘classically modern’ scents was to evoke old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist, perfectly represented by the rich packaging. Each bottle is encased by an embossed box, itself enveloped by a sleeve featuring Russo’s photography work. “Photograph Men’s” display is Gui Fedrizzi (the new face of Guess) while “Photograph Women” features the gorgeous Brazilian supermodel Marilia Moreno, both shot by Russo himself in the style of full-on 1920’s Hollywood glamour.
“Photograph” will soon be available in all major cosmetics and beauty retailers. It will exclusively launch, however, as a Montage Hotel feature fragrance, which Russo believes to be a perfect match. “It's the chicest hotel in LA,” Russo says. “The Montage is a mix of classic design with a modern flare, very reminiscent of my fragrance.”
Though old Hollywood might have been a muse, both fragrances are also a reflection of the modern lavish lifestyles of Russo’s clientele. As one of the world’s leading photographers, Russo has traveled the globe to shoot Hollywood and fashion elite, along the way drawing inspiration from each new sight, sound and scent. From the indulgent and impeccable gardens of France to the powerful and pungent spice markets of Morocco, Russo has plenty of experience with the vibrant and beautiful. “Photograph Women” is an intoxicating, watery, fruity, white floral scent – very feminine and clean – with top notes of freesia, melon, peach, grapefruit and lemon. Its middle notes are comprised of muguet (Lily of the Valley), rose, lavender and gardenia with musky, amber-y base notes. “Photograph Men” favors an earthy, woody vibe with top notes of mandarin, orange, bergamot, lemon and bay oil. Middle notes include lavender, ginger, leather and clove with a musky, smoky, tobacco base note.
“I’ve always had an eye for beauty and a nose for amazing aromas,” Russo says. “I've also always wanted to have my own line of products and developing a fragrance seemed like the natural first step, a great way to bridge these worlds I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of.”
John Russo began his trek to the top of the list of celebrity photographers in 1995. He has shot the likes of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Leonardo Dicaprio and Jessica Biel, to name a few. His work has been featured on the covers of Vogue, Elle, GQ, Esquire, Marie Claire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and many more of the world’s top publications. Russo is, in addition, an avid tennis player and counts the ATP among his hundreds of clients. If not behind a camera, he can usually be found on the courts perfecting his game.
