ARTIST T SHIRT SERIES Jean Michel Basquiat

This season agnès celebrates the artist t shirt collaborations and will launch over 40 prints.

agnès who was both a friend and collector of the artist, introduces Jean Michel Basquiat to the collection, using the work of Basquiat from her personal art collection.

Since the beginning agnès b. has designed a t shirt for every occasion, whether it was a film festival or an anniversary, there was a t shirt to mark the day.

However in 1994 when Felix Gonzales Torrez designed a t shirt declaring “Nobody owns me” the idea of an artist’s t shirt was conceived, and today the t shirt is a collector’s item.

Since 1994 agnès b. has offered the t shirt as a blank canvas to artists for them to use as they wish; Gilbert & George, Herve Guilbert, William Klein, Douglas Gordon, Claude Leveque and Jonas Mekas are just some of the artists who have been a contributor to this collection over the years.

The Basquiat t shirt is available for both homme and femme and sizes small, medium and large

Amy Pliszka: Bees Beside Us

Amy Pliszka: Bees Beside Us

Bees Beside Us,
agnès b.
35-36 Floral Street,
London WC2E 9DJ (Nearest Tube: Covent Garden)

Exhibition from: 3 May – 1 June 2013
Private View: Thursday 2 May 2013, 6.00 – 8.30pm

Bees Beside Us introduces a new type of beehive: an urban living space designed from the perspective of the honeybee. This exhibition showcases Pliszka’s practice informed by her study of honeybees and wild-bee nest architecture merging the fields of art, science and nature.

Brought together for the first time, Pliszka’s innovative and meticulously crafted beehives can be seen in a unique fashion environment. Commissioned by the French designer and gallerist agnès b. for her flagship London store, these new works promote an increasing awareness of the fragility of bees, their importance to civilization and what must be done to ensure their wellbeing in the city, respecting Albert Einstein’s ethos - “No more bees, no more Man.’’

agnès b. and Pliszka share a common interest in environmental concerns, a love of natural materials and attention to the future of how and where things are made. Pliszka’s beehives combine natural hand-turned, British Walnut wooden domes and bespoke pleated textiles to create the sensitive and expandable space that honeybees’ require. The textiles are made of natural fibres such as silk organza and leather adorned with hand-stitched patterns that respond to honeybees’ vision of complex pattern recognition. These elements can be layered depending on the season to maintain the hive at a constant temperature, reflecting the rituals of dressing for the weather. Exhibited alongside the hives are complimentary bespoke accessories including an insect forage garden and a selection of Pliszka’s hand-made pots for plants and a ceramic birdbath displayed on the roof terrace.

Pliszka became fascinated by the plight of the honeybee - whose worldwide population has decreased by 30 % in the last twenty years - during her studies at Central Saint Martins where her final year project focused on the creation of a new type of hive for the increasing number of bees populating Britain’s cities. Bees Beside Us forges a new relationship with bees in the urban context and appreciates all they do for us far beyond the provision of honey.

HOT TREND: THE MAN CAPE

Vivienne Westwood

And the winner of the hottest trend for men for Aw 12/13 or if you want to say Fall 2012/13 goes to ........ The cape....
Valentino

We saw this trend at nearly all menswear shows and in all variations... The winner for me goes to the heavily brocade cape sent down the runway from Dolce&Gabbana....
Roberto Cavalli

Its a trend I would say would suit eccentrics but for some reason Im sure this trend is going to take of, especially with the modernisation of the cape from the likes of Ermenegildo Zegna and Dior homme.....
Ermenegildo Zegna
Emporio Armani

we see a sleek well taliored and quite fitted cape from Valentino, asymetric styling from Vivienne Westwood, poncho-esque from Emporio Armani... and Victoriana from Dolce....
Agnes b

What do you think of the cape trend? will it take off? I think it will but as always let me know your thoughts.....

Agnes b new concept store

THE NEW CONCEPT STORE
Marylebone High street

Since opening a ‘Gallery/Boutique’ in New York’s Howard street, agnès b was keen to have a similar space in London where she could combine both art and fashion, and where she can show new and established artists, alongside the new season’s collections.

The new store will have committed areas to show artworks that will sit alongside the clothes and will give our customers the opportunity to enjoy the art whilst shopping within an informal environment.

The store will see dramatic changes and create a unique and ‘feel good’ shopping environment with the end transformation being able to house the complete agnès b. collection for both homme and femme. We will also re introduce layette into the store, with the ultimate basics for babies.

The 1st floor has been opened up and creates an exceptional open, light and elegant space that will become a relaxed shopping environment, meanwhile the ground floor continues to be dedicated to women’s wear and will have an area dedicated to the artwork, Layette (babies) and Voyage, the all essential luggage and bag collection.

Menswear has a complete new home in the basement that has been totally transformed to show the best of the men’s wear collection and again will have dedicated space to show artwork in the original vaults that are part of the Marylebone basement. The store looks forward to hosting a dedicated men’s weekend for the stores launch at the end of May, with on hand styling tips and wardrobe advice from the professionals.
