Glasgow Barber Rebel Rebel create Dystopian shoot in abandoned theme park

A derelict theme park set the scene for Glasgow barbers Rebel Rebel’s latest editorial, showcasing the very best of contemporary gents hair. Inspired by 1979 dystopian thrillers “The Warriors” and “Max Max” the team of Wee Rebels took to Loudoun Castle Theme Park to create some seriously cinematic imagery with the help of Glasgow based photographer Stew Bryden.

The shoot incorporates four distinct looks for their gang inspired editorial. Each model was given different characters to embody - from the sociopathic mummy’s boy banker to a distorted mutant, placed within the setting of an abandoned theme park and finishing touches from Titan Props. Everything was designed to feel off kilter, from aggressive fade cuts and dramatic shapes, right down to the grubby fingernails. The looks are far from what the usual clientele will ask for, instead going for experimental fashion led designs. The styles are varied from micro bowl cuts alongside mountain man plaits and blown out back combing.

Head stylist Alan Findlay was excited to work with hit team on a shoot combining his love of film and hair.

“We knew we wanted to do a shoot at Loudoun Castle as it’s got this brilliant eerie atmosphere. The art team brainstormed a Dystopian style shoot drawing from Max Mad and The Warriors as our starting point for design. We loved being able to create a complete world with the shoot, creating gangs and characters with backstories with an amazing team to pull it all together.”

Moving away from traditional vintage and beauty inspired productions, Rebel Rebel wanted to go against the grain with an edgier editorial with weird subversive imagery. Pioneers of barbering, the Rebels take their favourite aspects of classic barbering from hot shaves to vintage cuts before adding their own modern twists and experimenting with bold new styles to make sure they are a cut above the rest.
