The Wolf of Wall Street and the Gucci Horsebit Loafer

Gucci is pleased to announce that in director Martin Scorsese’s Oscar®-nominated film, “The Wolf of Wall Street”, both Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill wear the iconic Gucci horsebit loafer.

Revered filmmaker Scorsese directs the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort (DiCaprio).

From the American dream to corporate greed, Belfort goes from penny stocks and righteousness to IPOs and a life of corruption in the late 80s.  Excess success and affluence in his early twenties as founder of the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont warranted Belfort the title – “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Money.  Power.  Women.  Drugs.  Temptations were for the taking and the threat of authority was irrelevant.  For Jordan and his wolf pack, modesty was quickly deemed overrated and more was never enough.

Frida Giannini, Gucci’s Creative Director, says: “Costume designer Sandy Powell never fails to bring real authenticity to Martin Scorsese’s vision, as she has done once again in “The Wolf of Wall Street”. It is great to see Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill wearing iconic Gucci loafers in a film, which really does capture the heady atmosphere of that time.”

As a symbol of the jet-set lifestyle, DiCaprio’s Belfort and his friend and colleague Donnie Azoff, played by Jonah Hill, adopt the Gucci horsebit loafer, which features prominently in the movie and recently celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2013 at the time of the filming. This loafer has been the choice of international playboys ever since its introduction in 1953, and there is a pair in the permanent collection of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Paramount Pictures and Red Granite Pictures present “The Wolf Of Wall Street” from director

Martin Scorsese and producers Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland,

and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. The film is based on the book by Jordan Belfort, with a

screenplay byTerence Winter.

“The Wolf of Wall Street” is now open nationwide.
