'Le Fumoir' - NO SMOKE AND MIRRORS AT INTERCONTINENTAL GENEVE

Situated in the heart of Geneva’s diplomatic district and on the doorsteps of the UN, the stately InterContinental Genève is proud to announce the opening of the City’s most stylish new bar and cigar lounge, Le Fumoir–  any other bar is close, but no cigar!

Designed to make guests feel like they’ve stepped into a luxurious cigar box, Le Fumoir’s fine backdrop of dark woods, warm leathers and commanding fireplace offer the perfect hideaway setting in which to sit back and unwind with a cocktail and premium cigar accompanied by contemporary tunes spun by the in-house DJ.

Here creativity and expertise are encouraged. Leading the way in the cocktail industry, Le Fumoir narrows the gap between the bar and kitchen with unique creations including a Toblerone Martini, a tasty tribute to Switzerland fashioned in unison by the bar and pastry team.

“We saw a gap in the market as Geneva was definitely missing a place like Le Fumoir where you can truly enjoy the best of mixology as the bartenders are trained to be the best in the city. Most of the bars here focus solely on the music and ambience and forget about the key ingredient: what is actually inside your glass! We ensure our guests leave with the wow-factor,” says Thibaut Drege, Director of Food & Beverage at InterContinental Genève.

Cigar aficionados will not be disappointed. Le Fumoir’s Cigar Menu boasts thirty prestigious cigars, each  personally handpicked by the renowned cigar connoisseur Vahe Gerard, of the Geneva based cigar house Gerard  Père et Fil and author of ‘Cigars’.

“A selection of cigars can be made only with passion based on the quality of the guest and the beauty of the establishment. This is how we selected the cigars for the InterContinental Geneve says Vahe Gerard.

Le Fumoir is far from a rum do. Boasting a rum menu from over 27 countries, this Cosmopolitan bar and lounge offers its guests the best of all worlds with its selection of 55 individual brands.

We decided to choose rum as our main focus as we pair them with the cigars on offer which originate from similar locations. Rum is increasingly on the rise as a trendy spirit amongst all ages and due to drastic improvement from distillers they’re competing with the best Cognac and Whiskies worldwide,” explains Louise Pascot, Bar Manager at InterContinental Genève.

Adorning the bar are five decadently flavoured rums held in stately Absinthe fountains and tailored to every guests’ tastes. Choose between the Smoky Rhum, a mix of pear, honey and Lapsang souchong tea for a sweet and smoky flavour; Nutty Rhum, a blend of Tonka beans and macadamia nuts; or Candied Rhum, a fusion of dates, figs and plums for a sugary oriental taste.

Setting out to astonish and amaze, Le Fumoir has created The Porthole Collection of cocktails incorporating four spirits served in separate porthole flasks, proven to increase the rate of infusion, and combined with carefully chosen ingredients including homemade syrups, herbs and fruit to complement and enhance each flavour. The Bourb’On mixes bourbon with fresh tangerine, pear juice, homemade tobacco syrup and lemon and is rumoured to be the talk of the town while Le Fumoir’s Hot Chemical Cocktails are a firm favourite amongst guests.   Prepared in front of your eyes, the Grog Fumoir is a melange of Pusser’s and Black Jamaican Rum, orange zest, ginger and kick from the star anise; whilst the Red Hot Grog opts for Grey Goose vodka, paired with rooibos tea, tonka bean, and Maraschino liqueur.

Specialising in sumptuous bites, the bar menu features delicious snacks including Vindaloo crispy Black Tiger shrimp cigars, Oscietre caviar served with blinis and Monkfish fritters with a coconut and ginger dip.

Le Fumoir is fast becoming Geneva’s best kept secret, a place where history meets the future.

Opening Times:  Bar open from Tuesday to Saturday, 18.00pm to 2.00am. Cigar Lounge open every Sunday and Monday from noon till midnight, and Tuesday to Saturday until 2.00am.
