To mark the theatrical release of Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, the Award-winning footwear designer and architect, Julian Hakes, has hand-carved a signature ‘Mojito’ style shoe inspired by Thor as if it was made in Asgard.
Following the popularity of his Marvel’s Iron Man 3 shoe earlier this
year, Hakes won the prestigious ‘Vogue Accessories Designer’ award, the Marvel characters continue to inspire his work and influence his designs.
Julian Hakes said, “I wanted to draw on some of the strong iconography of Thor and his character but in a subtle way which reflects the deeper, darker storyline and imagery of the film. I imagined a shoe, as if it had been hammered by Thor, using Mjölnir, from a solid block of titanium or rock. It would be a gift for his companion, Jane Foster and would be something very special and unique, from the heart and made in Asgard.”
David Lee, Footwear Director for The Walt Disney Company EMEA added, “Marvel’s position as a global leader in entertainment puts it at the very heart of designers’ and fashion innovators’ designs and inspiration. Our relationship with Julian Hakes is testament to that. This shoe not only showcases Hakes’ unique, innovative style, it is also fashion-forward and exciting.”
Hakes’ shoe collections have been widely recognised across the globe. His ‘Mojito’ shoe has won several prestigious awards including the Drapers Shoe Designer of the Year award in 2012.!
