KITTY JOSEPH AW12 #LFW

Kitty Joseph presents her first full seasonal collection since her Royal College of Art MA Graduate collection for AW12 after making a splash in the industry with her print and textile focussed signature style and unique approach to Perspex accessory design. With print and textile as a starting point, this season takes inspiration from the chaos and repetition of nature’s miniatures close up and under the looking glass – the cells and particles in marble, stone, fossils and wood grain; and gargantuan nature – stars, clouds, galaxies and the earth from afar.

The AW12 silhouette takes on a 90’s minimalist perspective, allowing bold and sophisticated prints to sing atop a strong and simple canvas. A nod to sportswear recognises the growing importance in the role of luxury technical garments, and double printed reversible pieces make a return. Velvet shorts and sports dresses, neoprene bomber jackets and scuba inspired details, sheer power-net bodycon dresses and double sided printed belts form a futurist, utilitarian foundation, in contrast to this season’s micro and macro-nature driven prints.

Kitty Joseph’s unique approach to Perspex accessories and the manipulation of plastics has already become something of a signature for this exceptional young designer. This season’s twist sees glitter suspended within fluids encapsulated within Perspex casing forming bangles, street influenced hoop earrings and vials worn around the neck. Glitter moves and swirls with the wearer in random chaos contained and controlled by rigid Perspex – just like the Kitty Joseph woman this season, composed and well-ordered, but a little bit of a dreamer inside.

British born and based Kitty Joseph graduated from The Royal College of Art in 2011 in MA Textile Design. She has since collaborated with Zandra Rhodes at Paris Fashion Week and Piers Atkinson at London Fashion Week as well as creating bespoke pieces for Lady Gaga, MAC Cosmetics and Carine Roitfeld. Her experience in textile and print has lead to colour consultancy, analysis and trend prediction roles for international brands including Sony, Nokia and Umbro, as well as creating print collections for commercial applications for DKNY, Marks & Spencer and Hiroko Koshino. Kitty Joseph currently lectures at Coventry University in Fashion Print and Textile Design. The vast experience and participation in special projects and collaborations Kitty Joseph attributes to her name belie the youth of her emerging brand.
