JIGSAW MENSWEAR: Spring Summer 2012 Preview

RE-LAUNCH MENSWEAR FOR SPRING SUMMER 2012

Iconic British high-street label Jigsaw have announced that their Jigsaw Menswear line will re-launch for Spring Summer 2012. The menswear collection will be brought back under the brand label with its first collection since 1999.

Jigsaw have taken the decision to re-instate the successful line following the recent resurgence and interest in menswear and the public’s long-standing affection for Jigsaw’s previous menswear collections. The collection is being driven by design director Frances Walker who joined Jigsaw in February 2011 to begin working on the brand. Walker, who has over 20 years experience, created and developed her design signature at Nicole Farhi Menswear which she launched, and has brought her strong, confident vision to Jigsaw Menswear.
“There is definitely a lot of nostalgia for the original (Jigsaw) menswear brand. Also proper grown-up menswear in general is doing well at the moment so it felt like the right time for us to re-launch it. It is a re- launch because there was nothing wrong with the old business but the branding will be completely different and we are not simply resurrecting the old collection,” said Walker.

The new collection launches in March 2012 online and across 18 existing Jigsaw stores throughout the UK. The collection will be available in the larger of the Jigsaw stores and will be merchandised in separate areas or in some cases a floor. A stand alone store is also planned on London’s premier shopping street Dover Street which will open in March 2012. Targeted at a broad men’s market and inspired by personal style and great quality pieces rather than slavishly following fashion trends, the collection is focussed on simple, modern elegance, quality fabric and great fit.

‘’ We are inspired by honest clothing with a dishevelled charm, it’s not about being pristine, it’s about being comfortably well put together. We based the collection around most men’s favourite wardrobe pieces.’’ Frances Walker, Jigsaw Menswear Design Director

The European manufactured launch collection focuses around neutrals including navy, chino, light khaki and lots of white which are highlighted with faded summer brights in red, orange, raspberry pink and blue. Indigo dye fabrics are key to the collection, chosen for their longevity and lived in appeal such as the love- worn faded indigo shirts in vintage stripes and checks. Fabric choices have been carefully considered and many have been developed exclusively for Jigsaw Menswear including a small polka dot, plaid and a wool-cotton Prince of Wales check.

Collection favourites are focused around casual tailoring and summer outerwear including the unstructured linen herringbone overcoat, a double face British Millerain navy pea coat and a Jigsaw check wool cotton blazer. Trousers and shorts in brighter hues are important for SS12 and shirts are a focus with a worn in and laundered feel in luxury Italian fabrics. Traditional knitwear such as Fisherman’s rib and summery cotton-linen striped jumpers work with this less formal collection which also includes summer tailoring such as half lined jackets and linen blend separates. A collection of limited edition accessories including moulded leather gadget cases, heavy twill and leather trim bags, scarves and 3 key shoe shapes which are predominantly British made complete the elegant collection.
