FLY53 - SS13
Fly53 are proud to serve up their fresh SS13 collection, combining a bright look to the future with the most classic of styles from their rich heritage.
Colours are centre stage for the new season, with injections of acidic orange and turquoise melding with the successful continuation of the oxblood and midnight shades that were runaway winners for AW12. Repeat patterns on the Makani and Ditley meld imagery of war and peace, whilst references to the battle of the Bloods and Crips are inherent in the bandana print across the Pawl and Bloodbuzz, the former now extended right the way across the hood following the success of the AW12 version.
Patches and labels have shifted onto pockets for a workwear feel, with stitch detailing adding to a subtle utility aesthetic inkeeping with the streetwear trends that continue to dominate. The trend for back prints shows no signs of slowing and after standing as one of the first major brands to bring them into the foreground two seasons ago, Fly53 have stepped it up a gear with the all-out Pop Art inspired Norville hoody with block colour panels in washed out shades; Lichtenstein would be proud.
Never ones to shy away from controversy, the Fly53 counter culture inspired tees take a generation of iconic imagery and give them an overhaul. KFC, Clinique and Minnie Mouse are among those to be ripped up and put back together again by the in-house team at Fly53 with nods to 60s psychedelia, acid trips and B-movies. Tyvek labels are a new addition to t-shirt sleeves, bearing the outpourings of the Fly53 mind with original designs including illustrations and slogans such as ‘We couldn’t fix your brakes so we made your horn louder’. Interpretation is given back to the wearer with the option of keeping them on or off and bolsters the collectible aspect of the t-shirts they’ve come to represent within the brand history.
On trend knitwear ties in with the bold graphic print of the Dax, whilst digital prints are reinterpreted in tessellating panels on the upper back of sweatshirts in high quality jersey. Proving originality is timeless, Fly53 have also brought one of their most successful items of all time back from the archives; the Rumpsteak windbreaker jacket was a classic the first time round and has returned after its hiatus to show the young guns how it’s done. Outwear price points are all under £100, retaining affordability without a compromise on quality.
Looking ahead for the season, Fly53 also continue to produce their zine, featuring exclusive content from some of these most exciting bands emerging from the music scene today. Collaborations for 2013 are set to be the biggest in the brand’s history, bridging their love of music, motorcycles and everything a little bit messed up. Fly53 have been flying in the face of convention for over 18 years, providing standout clothes for those looking to retain their sense of originality in the way they dress. Uncompromising to their strong identity, the enduring and growing success of Fly53 proves if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But do turn it up.

PALLADIUM PUTS BOOTS TO THE TEST IN UNDERCITY: LAS VEGAS FILM
Exploration Duo Reveals Hidden World Underneath the Las Vegas Strip
Heritage boot brand Palladium partners with renowned exploration duo Undercity to launch a collaborative film entitled Undercity: Las Vegas. In the film, the Undercity team, director Andrew Wonder and urban historian Steve Duncan, document the subterranean tunnel system that quietly resides underneath the bustling city of Las Vegas. Throughout the exploration, the pair puts their Palladium boots to the test as they navigate through flooded tunnels and rough terrain, bringing to light a side of Vegas the public has never seen. Undercity: Las Vegas premieres in three parts with the first segment launching on August 30 at www.palladiumboots.com
“We have consistently put our boots to the test by leading real explorations in city terrain,” said Barney Waters, vice president of marketing for Palladium. “Andrew and Steve are pioneers in urban explorations, so we offered to support their next endeavor in Las Vegas. Everyone knows Las Vegas and The Strip, but few people know about the world underneath. This film shows the hidden side of one of the world’s most amazing cities, with Palladium boots ensuring the explorers stay dry and protected in the rough conditions they encounter.”
Undercity: Las Vegas is the second film that documents the underground adventures of Duncan and Wonder. The pair’s first film, Undercity: New York, received national buzz and praise, sparking the plan to take their exploration series to Las Vegas. Undercity: Las Vegas documents Duncan and Wonder as they uncover the hidden world below the city’s streets. The film highlights the changing ecosystem of the city, the inevitable risk of flash flooding during annual storms and the hundreds of miles of storm drains the city has constructed below the streets in recent years to help alleviate the problems caused by these floods. In exploring this hidden infrastructure, Duncan and Wonder chronicle how this shift is affecting citizens both above and below ground.
Throughout the exploration, Duncan and Wonder wear boots from Palladium’s Waterproof Collection, putting the brand’s latest technology to the test. The Waterproof Collection features a waterproof, nubuck leather upper, waterproof insole board, waterproof thread for stitching and sealed seams to keep moisture out. New for Fall 2012, Palladium updates the women’s collection with its LITE technology outsole, ensuring the boots are not only free of moisture but also ultra lightweight for effortless exploring. Additionally, the brand adds two new colorways to the Waterproof mix: Amber Gold and Dust. The Waterproof Collection is available for men and women in Palladium’s iconic Pampa Hi and Baggy silhouettes and ranges in price from $110.00-$140.00.
Undercity: Las Vegas premieres following the success of Palladium’s past urban exploration films Tokyo Rising, starring Pharrell Williams, and Detroit Lives, starring Johnny Knoxville. Undercity: Las Vegas will launch in conjunction with the brand’s Fall-Winter 2012 advertising campaign which debuts the brand’s new tagline “Engineered for City Terrain.” Mirroring the film, the ad campaign will also feature product from Palladium’s performance footwear collections, highlighting the brand’s roots in technical product design. Parts 2 and 3 of the film will launch on September 5 and September 10, respectively.
