Generator Amsterdam to open its doors on 16th March 2016!

Generator Amsterdam is the first of three new trailblazing, design-led Generator properties to open this year, preceding Stockholm and Rome

#GenLove continues in 2016 as Generator Hostels expands its portfolio with three highly anticipated milestone openings across top European destinations: Amsterdam, Stockholm and Rome. Beginning with Amsterdam which opens on 16th March, each property will open its doors in time for peak the summer season, enabling jetsetters to experience spring and summer’s best attractions from Amsterdam’s Tulp Festival to Parkteatern and Summer Burst in Stockholm to Rome’s Roman Summer.

Generator Amsterdam

The hyper-trendy East Amsterdam neighborhood just became even more in vogue with the addition of Generator’s most ambitious property to date, adjacent to the popular and newly renovated Oosterpark. Located in Mauritskade 57, a historical brick building built in 1908 as the University of Amsterdam’s science department, the property is the only upscale hostel in the city.

Inspired by the building’s history and park-side location, Generator maintained the lecture hall and science lab aesthetics while modernizing the spaces with playful graphics and pops of colour to create a labyrinth of sprawling amenities, and in true Generator form, no shortage of hang-out spots. The core social space, Nescio, named after a famous Dutch writer, includes:

·         The property’s café, open daily for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, provides grab and go items, and a range of locally-sourced dishes.

·         The Auditorium, open day and night as a laid-back lounge, features the original lecture-style seating and a professor’s desk repurposed as a central bar with gas taps and reclaimed laboratory beakers.

·         The Library, an intimate space to unwind, retains its original wood heritage elements that pay homage to its initial function and includes walls shelved with bright orange books.

Additional property features include:

·         standalone underground speakeasy-like bar located in the building’s former boiler room, is slated to open later in the year.

·         luxury Sky Suite Apartment with views of Oosterpark includes two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a TV.

·         Tailored programming such as a Coffee Lab, beer tastings, coffee masterclasses, Vanmoof bikes, movie screenings, meeting andwork spaces, and more.

·         Starting rates are €18 for shares, €70 for private rooms, €100 for luxury suites.

Josh Wyatt from Patrol Capital, the founding company of Generator, said, “Our central ethos for Generator Amsterdam is about embracing the mystery surrounding the multiple layers of the building and its historical nature. Around every corner, there are new sights and experiences for guests to explore. With the building originally used and designed as a school dedicated to the study of the natural sciences, Generator will carry this classic, nature based theme forward in its design and use of the spaces.”

The cutting-edge European lifestyle brand, responsible for transforming hostels to design-forward hospitality experiences, is coming off the momentous 2015 launch ofGenerator Paris, which introduced a superior shared accommodations concept that mixes upscale design, interactive guest experiences, and affordable rates. This year, award-winning interior design firm DesignAgency and Generator will once again evolve this concept to create the ultimate lifestyle experience.

“The hostel and shared accommodation sector is one of the most exciting areas in the hospitality industry today. As one ofFast Company’s Most Innovative Companies of 2016, Generator continues to lead the charge to redefine it,” said Fredrik Korallus, Chief Executive Officer of Generator. “We have a proven concept, powerful brand, stellar team and a wide foothold in key European destinations. Generator’s one-of-a-kind concept will now be connecting the global traveler with unique communities in these three top international cities.”

These property openings are part of the brand’s exciting pipeline of new openings and just the first of many announcements about new locations in coming months.
