Spring/Summer 2015 ‘Nomadic Scorpion’
From the desert’s thriving morning heat to the cool evening dusk Gyunel’s SS15 collection tells the story a nomadic traveller, withstanding the relentless dissolving dunes, amongst darting creatures dwelling in the sand. The shadows of scorpions across arid and desolate planes lead you on Gyunel’s roaming journey evoked from her sign of the Zodiac.
A sand clock inspires hourglass silhouettes giving shape to serpentine gowns juxtaposed with sculpted separates illustrating an athletic energy that creates a collection that is both relaxed and confident. Layers of crochet and leather decorate the skin, depicting the desert’s hours of orbiting shadows, as scorpions clandestinely crawl on. Swimwear is introduced for the first time with a mirage of drenching blues contrast a dry palette of titian orange and brittle greens.
Gyunel was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. Here she gained a degree in Economics before moving to London to study fashion at the esteemed London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins. Before entering the world of fashion, Gyunel enjoyed a successful career as an artist where she exhibited at the esteemed Cork Street Gallery, gaining critical acclaim. The talent and passion for painting feeds cleverly in to her design work, creating beautiful and wearable pieces with an artistic edge.
Gyunel says “I like to think of the Gyunel woman as a nomadic traveller with a strong adventurous attitude. I was really inspired by the idea of journeys through places steeped in culture and the creatures that inhabit them.”
