This year sees the exciting launch of the Debenhams Menswear Scholarshipat Graduate Fashion Week, which will see one graduate awarded a 12 month paid contract within the Debenhams menswear design department. Set to become an annual award, this is being added to 11 other prizes which will be decided when the event begins this weekend in London.
Showcasing the work of over 1,000 graduates from the most influential and inspiring UK and international universities, Graduate Fashion Week represents the future of creative design talent. Attracting over 20,000 guests each year, the event features exhibitions from over 40 universities. With many graduates populating design studios, buying offices, publishing houses and creative agencies all over the world, Graduate Fashion Week has introduced some of the industry’s brightest stars.
On the judging panel this year is Julian Fuller, Head Of Menswear Design at Debenhams, who will be mentoring and working alongside the winner, “This is one of the most important dates in the UK fashion calendar which always showcases the most exciting and imaginative new design talents out there. I’m so proud to be a part of the launch of the Debenhams Menswear Scholarship, which will allow us to nurture one of these rising stars and give them invaluable skills for the future.” Debenhams have a history of aligning with influential designers, with the most recent being the Savile Row tailor Patrick Grant, a past judge of the event himself who launched his incredibly successful Hammond & Co. range for the High Street retailer last year.
An unrivalled platform for the promotion of new talent, Graduate Fashion Week bridges the gap between graduation and employment and is responsible for launching the careers of some of the most successful designers of our time including Christopher Bailey, who was the winner of the first ever Graduate Fashion Week Gold Award, Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and Julien Macdonald.
Graduate Fashion Week begins on Saturday 31st May and runs until Tuesday 3rd June when the winners will be announced. With London Collections: Men also returning again on Sunday 15th June to showcase the SS15 collections, all eyes are on the UK as the importance of the thriving menswear market is rightfully brought to the forefront.
