GIORGIO ARMANI COLLABORATES WITH 20th CENTURY FOX FOR THE FILM “THE COUNSELOR”

Giorgio Armani and 20th Century Fox are joining forces on an exciting range of activities on behalf of the studio’s upcoming thriller “The Counselor.” The partnership ranges from special events to digital and retail components, the most notable involvement being the Emporio Armani film wardrobe.

Giorgio Armani has been instrumental in collaborating with esteemed costume designer Janty Yates and celebrated director Sir Ridley Scott to create the style and wardrobe for several lead characters in the movie featuring his Emporio Armani collection. The highly anticipated drama (opening in the US on October 25 and throughout November internationally) stars Michael Fassbender as ‘The Counselor’ and Penelope Cruz, playing his fiancè, Laura. The film’s illustrious cast also co-stars Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Javier Bardem.

This reprises Mr. Armani’s previous cinematic partnership with renowned costume designer Yates, who has won the Academy Award in Costume Design for “Gladiator,” and the Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Ridley Scott. Yates and Mr. Armani first worked together on the film “De-Lovely,” while Scott and Mr. Armani previously collaborated on “Hannibal.”

As the titular high-profile lawyer who gets in over his head, Michael Fassbender wears select Emporio Armani suits throughout the thriller.  His wardrobe consists of a one-button peak lapel suit in navy, as well as a two-button notch lapel suit in cream, and a one-button narrow lapel suit in light grey, all paired with a variety of shirt and neck tie options. His other wardrobe selections range from Emporio Armani daywear to casual Armani Jeans pieces.

Commented Michael Fassbender: “Armani was the perfect fit for my character, The Counselor, and great to wear.”

Co-star Penelope Cruz is also outfitted in select Emporio Armani pieces, including a custom designed three-quarter sleeve, knee length dress in bright scarlet with a matching cardigan. The look is completed with a white trench coat.

Penelope Cruz says:  "It is always an honor to be dressed by Giorgio Armani, on screen and off. There is such simpatico between Giorgio and myself.  We both admire the power of simplicity. We both lead quiet lives on very noisy career paths. Wearing his designs put me in a state of grace, whether on a red carpet or in a film.  How lucky that we are genuine friends."

Giorgio Armani says: “I’m delighted to again collaborate with the stellar filmmakers Sir Ridley Scott and Janty Yates. Janty and I had such a spectacular experience on ‘De-Lovely.’ Working with her is inspiring.  As a cinema devotee, I’m always honored to play a small part in the magic of filmmaking.”

“Michael Fassbender is such a thrilling talent.  He’s elegant and edgy -- an Armani man, onscreen and off. “

“Penelope Cruz is eternally beautiful and brilliant.  Our longstanding friendship has stretched from the cinema to the red carpet to my heart.”

“Working with Mr. Armani and his fantastic team is always an inspirational event.  I feel very fortunate to have this extraordinary relationship,” stated ‘The Counselor’ costume designer Janty Yates.  “Long may it last! And of course a big thank you for The Counselor!”

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Mr. Armani and the Emporio Armani brand for this exciting upcoming release. Armani is truly pulling together a 360-degree activation across all their channels to celebrate the designs worn by our actors in the film,” said Zachary Eller, Senior Vice President of Partnerships & Promotions for 20th Century Fox.

‘The Counselor’ was directed by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize winning author Cormac McCarthy (‘No Country for Old Men’). McCarthy, making his feature screenwriting debut and Scott interweave the author’s characteristic wit and dark humor with a nightmarish scenario, in which a respected lawyer’s one-time dalliance with an illegal business deal spirals out of control. The producers are Ridley Scott, Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz. ‘The Counselor’ is a 20th Century Fox Pictures presentation, in association with Chockstone Pictures, a Ridley Scott film.

Giorgio Armani has been on the forefront of creating wardrobes for major motion pictures since he pioneered the movement by dressing Richard Gere in “American Gigolo” in 1980.  Since then, hundreds of films have incorporated designs by Giorgio Armani, including “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Untouchables,” “Gattaca,” “Stealing Beauty,” “Shaft,” “The Tuxedo,” “De-Lovely,” “Ocean’s Thirteen,” “Fair Game,” “The Social Network,” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”
