“L’ARTE DEL RITRATTO”
AT ART BASEL AND DESIGN MIAMI 2012
During Art Basel and Design Miami 2012, Marni will present, for the first time in the US, the exhibition “L’Arte del Ritratto” with a new edition of 125 chairs from the Marni Charity Project, which will be sold exclusively at the Marni Miami Store.
Marni has presented for Salone del Mobile 2012 a collection of 100 chairs made in Colombia by ex-prisoners. This Marni venture aims to reinforce the prisoners resettlement into social and working life. A common seat in Colombian local families, re-interpreted by Marni who modified the shape, the woven pattern and created new color variations. The chairs are linked to the “L’Arte del Ritratto” project through a photo exhibition created in collaboration with the photographer and filmmaker Francesco Jodice. His performances are based on works of categorization: the chairs are used as background for a series of portraits of Marni teams from different departments. “L’Arte del Ritratto” is an homage dedicated to them, destined to last in time, which is also accompanied by a video that reports the shooting experience.
The exhibition is now touring to the Marni boutique in Miami for Art Basel and Design Miami. Each style will be positioned throughout the boutique and display a small screen featuring the video from the project “L’Arte del Ritratto” or behind the scenes from the online magazine of Marni.com, Anticamera. The potraits, set in small frames, are placed on the shelves and tables, mingling with the products.
The project reaffirms Marni’s involvement with charitable initiatives. The funds raised from the sale of the chairs will be donated to Service Network for Children of Inmate.
