NICOLE FARHI has teamed up with the London College of Fashion to celebrate the launch of the new flagship store and Autumn Winter 2011 collections.
Collaborating for the first time, these two notable fashion institutions ran a competition to see the design of one of the college’s Fashion Retail Branding and Visual Merchandising students adorn the windows of the recently opened London flagship store.
The selection process, overseen by Nicole Farhi, Head of Visual Merchandising at NICOLE FARHI Jamie Shouli, and Course Director at London College of Fashion Jonathan Baker, saw 3rd year student Daniel Parnell chosen to work alongside the NICOLE FARHI team to produce the windows displays of his design.
Echoing Nicole Farhi’s design ethos, Daniel’s display sees the influences of both art and sculpture. Inspired by the distorted forms and imperfections in the work of 20th century figurative painter Egon Schiele and the large scale instillations of British sculptor Anthony Gormley, the window design sees oversized 3- dimensional geometric structures in high-shine chrome. These abstract formations are scattered across the windows that wrap around the entirety of the store, contrasting with the shapes and volume of the Autumn Winter 2011 collection that dominate throughout.
James Shouli says ‘Working on this project with all the students was extremely exciting and the level of talent was exceptional and a pleasure to be part of. Daniel’s design captured the essence of the collection and the brand through his use of innovative techniques’.
The concept can be seen in the windows of NICOLE FARHI stores across London.
