Diesel London Press Day

Diesel, a brand known essentially for their denim, presented their A/W ’11 collection based around the concept of ‘Diesel Island’. Following on the narrative from their last collection ‘Be Stupid’, Diesel Island is described as an escapism from the “fucked up” world that we live in, which is full of war and pollution. Diesel Island is for those ‘stupid’ but brave people “for successful living” – as the Press Release suggests.

The autumn/winter collection represents the perfect uniform for Diesel Island. A combination of military inspired shapes seen in Diesel Black Gold, contrasted with a preppy menswear collection, and finally a rock chick look for womenswear.

For continuity, Diesel have dubbed their customers ‘Brave Natives’. The tag line for the ‘Brave Natives’ is ‘No Guns No Roses’ and this cleverly sums up the rock and roll inspired elements of the collections. In womenswear there is a balance of iconic graphic printed tees, biker jackets, and a lot of leather.

Menswear tells the story of a young boy, dreaming of becoming a rock star. Preppy baseball hats, and chunky cardigans depict the beginning of his story, that concludes with military jackets, and jeans that are just on the right side of distressed.
