CHANEL A/W 11/12 (WOMEN'S READY TO WEAR)

The 2011-12 Fall-Winter Ready-to-Wear collection was staged in a poetic fall mist, on a backdrop painted with an imaginary forest cast with mystery. “I wanted to recreate in the Grand Palais the atmosphere of a misty garden, after the French gardens from last season,” comments Karl Lagerfeld. The models emerged from two white cubes monogrammed with a black Chanel Logo in a dazzling fog of light to stride down a wooden trail.

Androgyny, the crossroads between masculine and feminine and the mix of genders, imposes a new attitude. The legendary CHANEL jacket, beaded and embroidered, is worn with a men’s tuxedo jacket, or with a sportswear reefer jacket, hybrid and equivocal, or can be worn under a tweed or knitted cape with contrasting colors. The mood of fatigues-style jumpsuits is shifted, either by sequins or a quilted effect. The jumpsuits are even more dressed up with embroidered lace, while the masculine pants are worn cuffed above a naked ankle.

Nature is styled. Foamy volumes on short sleeves or on the collars of little black dresses are accented by frayed tulle. Leaves slide over transparent organza overlays, and silk chiffon in hazy colors, and trim cuffs or necklines.

Buttons shine, monogrammed and squared, in metal or glass. Tweeds, draped cashmere, organza, chiffon and satin, and knitted tricot resonate with a dim palette: black, anthracite, multiple greys, silver, fur-tree green and red.

The masculine shoes are worn with loose socks, almost like gaiters, and are contrasted with slender pointed pumps in crêpe de Chine with an elegant heel, contrasting matte and patent.

The jewlery, cuff bracelets, necklaces and brooches with an Art Nouveau style evoke nature with bursts of light.

The bags in glazed lambskin are captivating, with their constructivist aged-metal clasps, linear quilting, and graphic stitching.

The collection is truly spectacular the House of Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld knows what a woman wants and always delivers........  definite double thumbs up and 11/10 from the clotheshorse.
