BELSTAFF X SOPHNET. LIMITED EDITION CAPSULE LAUNCHES

BELSTAFF X SOPHNET. CAPSULE COLLECTION LAUNCH 2017

Modern British heritage brand Belstaff launches a limited edition capsule collection with cult Japanese street-wear brand SOPHNET. for Spring Summer 17.

Belstaff is steeped in its spirit of adventure having created clothing for pioneers in motorsports, aviation and exploration since its birth in 1924.  SOPHNET. the popular Japanese street-wear brand takes inspiration from music, art and street culture. The collaboration comprises of classic Belstaff shapes with identifiable SOPHNET. design cues, giving a more urban aesthetic for today’s street market.

Gavin Haig, Belstaff CEO says of the launch: "We are proud to reveal our collaboration with renowned Japanese street-wear label SOPHNET. Together we have worked on a capsule collection of street-inspired iconic Belstaff outerwear styles, to which Kiyonaga - with great respect for the codes of the brand - has brought a modern and urban functionality. The collection is an exclusive and limited series aimed at the global city adventurer which we anticipate will not be available for very long."

Hirofumi Kiyonaga, SOPHNET. says of the launch, “I came across Belstaff decades ago, when my curiosity for fashion first began. Belstaff is a brand which people have worn and admired for many years and I respect their designs, longevity and authenticity. This is something I wish for with my own label. I appreciate this opportunity to work with Belstaff and I believe the collection showcases the Belstaff philosophy combined with Japanese street culture. I hope the collection appeals to the loyal fans of both brands but also to a new audience.”

Belstaff’s iconic four-pocket 6oz waxed cotton Roadmaster jacket is given a new look with camo detailing. The grey, blue and green camo print used throughout the collection is a British woodland camouflage, as seen within the Belstaff mainline collection for Summer 17 and takes inspiration from the extensive Belstaff archive. The Roadmaster has the signature SOPHNET. cardholder pocket detail on the sleeve and camo print on the inner arm, elbow and lining. The piece still retains the water resistant and windproof properties of Belstaff’s traditional wax cotton but with a modern twist.

The Roadmaster is also available in water repellent nylon, a new fabric category for Belstaff. The different handle of the fabric gives it a contemporary modern look for the urban adventurer.

The Rebel jacket, a 70s café racer style taken from the Belstaff archive, is produced in nylon to keep the moto style urban. The asymmetrical zipper, camo elbow patches and lining give the jacket a modern edge.

The Westbury Parka, inspired by the Belstaff Foul Weather Parka MK3, is a jacket design first created in the 1970s for the Royal Navy. The padded hood gave insulation and noise protection in bad weather conditions on deck. These design elements have been kept, but the material modernised by using water resistant solid nylon. The lightweight fabric is easy to wear and carry for urban dwellers but the fabric properties mean it can be worn in active environments.

The Elmhurst Fleece is a classic style from SOPHNET. with the capsule logo printed on the front of the hoodie with the phoenix in a large scale camo print on the back.

The BXS Sneaker is a classic white, flat sneaker with waxed cotton laces. The nylon trim in different capsule camo colours is added to the heel of sneaker, a classic design cue from SOPHNET.

The capsule launched exclusively in Isetan, Shinjuku, Tokyo from 25th January 2017. Following the 10 day exclusivity the limited edition capsule is now available in Belstaff stores, online in the UK; Barney’s and online, USA; and Breuninger, Germany.
