THE TRUE COST OF YOUR SUMMER STYLE
AVERAGE UK WOMAN SPENDS £800 ON LOOKING COOL IN THE HEAT
· July is the most expensive month…with two thirds splashing out more on treatments and clothes this month than at any other time
· One in 20 of us spends £1,500 on new summer wardrobe
It’s that time of year again and as the heat wave continues we’re all searching for ways to showcase our summer style. But staying cool doesn’t come cheap – as a new survey reveals the true cost of looking good in the sun.
According to Lambrini’s Summer Style Report the majority of British women are spending a staggering £800 on clothes and beauty treatments in the current warm weather – with one in 20 forking out £1,500 on outfits alone.
More than two thirds (67 per cent)say they splash out more on looking good in July than in any other month. A combination of outdoor events and big social occasions like weddings means 80 per cent will spend £400 on new clothes, while 89 per cent will book-in for £400 of beauty treatments too.
And if that sounds expensive, one in eight British women interviewed for the Lambrini research admits spending £800 on a new hot weather wardrobe.
Holidays (63 per cent), hot weather in the UK (55 per cent) and weddings (51 per cent) are the top three occasions we want to look our best for, followed by BBQs, summer parties and hen nights.
Grooming is seen as a summer essential with women opting for haircuts and colour (60 per cent) followed by waxing (six per cent) and fake tan (four per cent).
Not surprisingly, to cope with the cost, one in four of us (23 per cent) now have a specific summer style budget – money set aside to meet shopping and beauty bills.
Speaking about the findings, Lambrini’s Lorna Tweed says: “We all want to look our best, especially when it comes to events like weddings and holidays which means July can be an expensive time.
“What this survey shows very clearly is that even during these tough economic times, staying cool and on trend remains a priority."
