Following a short break during the Olympics, Sanderson Sessions 2012 in partnership with SOUNDS is back. The next two sessions are now confirmed for Friday 7th September 2012, presenting London’s very own Citizens! and Thursday 20th September featuring Saint Lou Lou, the beautiful Swedish-Australian sister duo.
Comprised of Londoner’s Martyn, Thom, Tom, Lawrence and Mike, Citizens! are a funkily acerbic rock band signed to French Indie/electronic label, Kitsuné. Having met at a party, the foursome soon started to experiment with song writing with a vision to write pop music that was “imaginative, exciting and interesting”.
Their first album, “Here We Are” released in May 2012, was produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos and recorded at Alex’s country house to a strict set of rules, including no auto-tune or track correcting. The album met with critical acclaim and high praise, with NME gushing that it is an "album as art smart as Franz, as disco droll as Hot Chip, as pose pop as The Naked And Famous and as catchy and cool as the Two Door lot on the other lot’s Indian cycling holiday." NME, June 2012. Their next single, True Romance, will be released on Monday 24th September 2012.
On Thursday 20th September 2012, twin sisters Saint Lou Lou will be taking to the stage. Spending their lives bouncing between the long cold winters of Stockholm, Sweden and the happy-go-lucky beaches of Sydney, Australia - it's no wonder there’s a striking contrast infusing their sound. The years of dislocation and adaptation lend a world weary knowingness which seeps into their voices, not what you might expect from their aesthetic. The band has just released their first EP through Kitsuné, and this will be one of their very first, highly-anticipated UK live performances.
For the last three consecutive summers Sanderson Sessions (previously Sanderson Predicts) has played host to some of the UK’s most innovative and exciting new bands. The series returned this summer, with the iconic Sanderson Courtyard playing host to a series of unique performances in its unrivalled central London outdoor setting. Hotel guests and visitors can hear some of the hottest names on the UK and international music circuit while soaking in the delights of evening sunshine. Previous sessions have played host to Singtank, AlunaGeorge, Karin Park, Violet (with Pixie Geldof), Glasser and Yasmin.
Famed for its private Courtyard and cut-above-the-rest eclectic cocktail offering at Long Bar, Sanderson is the perfect setting to enjoy these musical offerings.
