MY FAVOURITE OLYMPIC MOMENT - GIORGIO ARMANI

An incredible Olympic story captivated me and every Italian back in 1960.

The games were held in Rome that year, and in the semi-finals of the 200m a 21-year old chemistry student from Turin called Livio Berruti ran an incredible 20.5 seconds to win his heat, equalling the World Record.

It was a surprise performance and qualified him for the Olympic final.

Berruti was also something of a memorable dresser because he ran in black glasses and white socks.

In the 200m final, he once again ran the same amazing time to win the gold, beating the Americans.

It was an astonishing achievement and cemented Berruti in my mind as a real Italian hero.
