Baroque embroidery, modern tailoring, new proportions for the contemporary aristocrat - Dolce & Gabbana...
Stefano Gabbana ". "The situation in the world is not so good.... so what we can do as designers is give people something to dream of."
Last Saturday I flew to Milan for the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013 menswear show.... at 2:47 pm the lights went up and the show started .... after just two looks I knew that they had a collection and this is one to dream of!!
The inspiration for the the collection and where it starts is strong masculine traditional tailoring..... which has evoloved and experiments with new cuts and embroidery that take on a life of their own.....
The coat is the protagonist of the collection, made in different shapes and in various proportions from daywear to eveningwear and becoming a cape called Tistera typical in Sicillian countryside.....
From the show I was getting opera, english gentleman, and at some stages I felt like I was taken back to the court of Louis fourteen, due to the style of the cloaks, brocades and heavy embroidery.... You may or may not know but both Dolce & Gabbana and D&G are now back under the one label Dolce & Gabbana, but some pieces you could spot and know that they woud have been D&G but upgraded.....
The fabrics of choice for the collection were treated in new ways such as ageing and boiling . Jackets coats and pants were made with pinstripes, herringbone, velvet and Prince of Wales check..... shaped in traditional Italian tailoring....
Shoes were a key element in the collection embriodered and characterised by gaiters worn over pointed and rounded toes. Other accessories included the iconic Sicillian cap and romatic ribbon bow ties.
The collection was all grey hues with hints of bordeaux, dark green and camel.......
For me as an avid follower and wearer of Dolce & Gabbana.... this brings me back 10 years how the collections use to be mainly fabric based and not denim. The workmanship is just unbelieveable close up look at the work that has gone into these pieces I was completely blown away..... The chunky knitwear some which came with half or three quarter sleeves complimented every aspect of the collection ......
The winner of the collection without a doubt goes to the capes and embroidery! no one else has shown nothing like this a strong and wearable collection ..... wearable is most important has we want nice pieces to wear not keep as gallery pieces and the collection ticks all the boxes!!! the atmosphere, the collection, the music, the party, the Italian Way was all captured on Saturday afternoon and my verdict is
Absolute;y stunning collection!!
We have a winning collection!!! I can't wait Until Next month to see whats in store for the ladies with the FAll 2013 womens ......
