Smythson celebrates the history of Valentine's Day
From Frank, with love through the ages’ - Smythson celebrates the history of Valentine’s Day
Smythson’s 2013 Valentine’s campaign dips into the brand archives, exploring its 125-year heritage in a celebration of the art of the heart-felt gift.
Drawing inspiration from some of our earliest Valentine’s Day cards dating back to the early 1900s, the heart symbol has become the globally recognisable icon of love – giving rise to the creation of the Grosvenor ruby heart key ring. A nod to the well-known saying ‘key to my heart’, the key ring makes for the perfect gift with that added playful note of significance.
Red has long been an emblem of love, passion and romance. The Grosvenor collection’s ruby range offers a sophisticated selection of leather goods that are key accessories to everyday life. The collection includes items such as the Work Tote, iPad clutch and passport covers.
For the ultimate gesture, gifts can be personalised with names, initials or motifs - as is charmingly exemplified by a gold-stamped red Mignon diary discovered in the archives, dating back to 1940. Our personalisation service is available across stationery, books and leather accessories.
The Smythson Love Letters book is a compilation of scripts, poems and notes from a host of historical figures, featuring pieces written by the likes of Napoleon, Shakespeare and Lord Byron.
In today’s digital age, the medium of communication has evolved at lightning speed, relegating the art of penmanship to the realms of romanticism.
Smythson has continued to uphold the standards of quality, tradition and etiquette associated with that most highly regarded and time-honoured form of communication – writing.
All artefacts will be available for viewing in the 40 New Bond Street store, and at the new Sloane Street store opening on Saturday 26th January.

Welcome to the World of Smythson
Smythson has been hand-making leather goods for 125 years now and clearly haven’t altered their techniques, as seen in the film they commissioned for the launch of their new website, directed by the brilliant Carter Peabody. http://peabodyandco.com/
The first video premiered on Style.com as a journey into the heart of Smythson’s craftsmanship and delivers a rich, sensory experience of the brand. More films will follow before the end of the year, including the unveiling of our two new icons

SMYTHSON IN BLOOM

Smythson celebrates Chelsea in Bloom

Smythson is delighted to take part in this year’s Chelsea in Bloom art show celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a floral tribute to the tastemakers of the era of Her Majesty’s Coronation.
Designed as an extension of our latest windows created in collaboration with British illustrator Kerry Lemon, our display recreates a quintessential English Rose garden, inspired by the photography of Cecil Beaton and the innovative style and colour palette used by royal florist Constance Spry.
Using hydrangeas, begonias and a variety of roses, soft shades of cream and pink are contrasted with touches of greenery, to produce a structured display reminiscent of Regent’s Park Rose Garden and the mazes of Hampton Court Palace.
Echoing the illustrations in our Jubilee windows, our Chelsea in Bloom floral display adds a complementary layer to the installation, giving a playful take on our English heritage and a whimsical homage to the Diamond Jubilee.
