CLEMENTS RIBEIRO UNVEILS SPRING SUMMER 2014 FILM & COLLECTION

The collection re-imagines tourists in Rio – partly retro tropical glamour, partly street- savvy fashionista.
Inspired by the designers’ collection of 30s-40s butterfly trays from Rio, it started with the prints: a tropical floral enveloping a postcard photo of the Rio Bay is the obvious centrepiece. Ferns and parrots make up other tropical themes.

The iconic black and white wavy pattern of the Copacabana pavement makes a graphic counterpoint.

‘After an extended family trip to Brazil last year, Suzanne and I are having a ‘Brazilian moment’. Being Brazilian, it is of course a back-to-the-roots thing for me. But with Brazil hosting the World Cup next year, and the Olympic games in Rio two years later our thoughts and plans are constantly in my native land!’ says Inacio Ribeiro

‘I love Rio. Inacio introduced me to the traditional rosewood and butterfly wing trays which were a staple Rio souvenir from the 20’s until the 50’s. We now have a growing collection of them. Our favourite is one that has plastic fern leaves. It inspired us to create all of the prints of the collection!’ Says Suzanne Clements

The ruffled pencil skirt defines the tropical silhouette. Shorter swing skirts and dresses also introduce a fresh look for the brand. Tailored shorts and tourist shirts complete the Rio look. Black and white, red and white tops and t-shirts evoke the football jerseys. Introducing a new range of printed sweatshirts and t-shirts.
