SWATCH PARTNERS WITH LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA IN ITS 30TH YEAR AND LAUNCHES TWO NEW SWATCH & ART SPECIALS

Swatch, the Swiss watchmaker, which is a partner of La Biennale di Venezia, was present in the city during the preview program last week.  The day opened with a press conference at the Teatro Piccolo at Arsenale devoted to the SWATCH_Faces concept and Swatch’s presence at the Giardini and Arsenale venues.

In the evening, a splendid and exclusive party was given at the Compagnia della Vela, which went on into the night.

Special guest was the singer Mika, who, at 30, is as old as Swatch.  Also joining Swatch Creative Director Carlo Giordanetti was DJ Ed McFarlane from Friendly Fires, Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz De La Prada, Italian model Eva Riccobono, arts curator Caroline Corbetta, Italian TV presenter Cristina Parodi, Fashion Director GQ Ildo Damiano,  Italian actress Giulia Bevilacquaand photographer Stefano Guindani.

Two Swatch Art Special watches were also launched at La Biennale di Venezia from Spanish multimedia artist José Carlos Casado and from GOTO DESIGN, the dynamic New York design duo who collaborated with Massimiliano Gioni, curator of the 55th International Art Exhibition - la Biennale di Venezia, to create the identity of the exhibition. Casado, an artist in residence at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai in 2012, has created “OFF”. The colourful image that explodes from the dial across the strap results from the artist’s controlled fusion of advanced technologies and traditional means of artistic expression. GOTO DESIGN has created two watches for Swatch, “BLUE WILD FACE” and “WILD FACE”. Framing a funky, bold, colourful and fantasy-born "monster" with a sober black strap, the design explores the split personality (Dr Jekyll / Mr Hyde) in the no-man’s land where genius and madness meet.
