GIORGIO ARMANI CELEBRATES THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF TOKYO’S ARMANI/GINZATOWER WITH "ECCENTRICO"

GIORGIO ARMANI CELEBRATES THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF TOKYO’S ARMANI/GINZA TOWER WITH "ECCENTRICO" - AN EXHIBITION OF CLOTHES, ACCESSORIES AND JEWELLERY FROM HIS COLLECTIONS

The Armani Group is pleased to announce that an event to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of Armani/Ginza Tower was held yestarday in Tokyo.

On this occasion, the Eccentrico exhibition launched in Milan in September during women’s fashion week was brought to Japan. It will be open to the public from November 30th to December 13th and will be held on the ninth floor of the building.

The Eccentrico exhibition showcases 51 dresses from the Giorgio Armani and Giorgio Armani Privé collections – 51 refined creations, dating from 1985 to the present, that with their evocative beauty conjure up a vision of exquisite elegance, and feature fantastic, imaginative ideas that appear to transform the very essence of things. In addition to these, there are over 200 accessories on show including jewellery, shoes, bags and hats.

Giorgio Armani says, “After Milan, I wanted to bring Eccentrico to Tokyo to celebrate five years of Armani/Ginza Tower, to pay tribute to my love of Japanese culture and aesthetics, which have often inspired me in my work.”

A private preview of the exhibition took place during the event. The Armani/Ginza Tower was specially transformed for the occasion: on the two floors that house Emporio Armani a DJ played a set, and cocktails were served in a casual environment; on the floor that houses Giorgio Armani womenswear there was an exhibition of 28 sketches of dresses that are being shown in Eccentrico.

On the Giorgio Armani menswear floor champagne cocktails were available, in the Armani/Casa area there was a wine tasting and the Armani Ristorante hosted its own cocktail party. The Armani Bar provided a smoking area and served cognac.

Armani/Ginza Tower, located in the heart of the world-renowned Ginza fashion retail area, opened five years ago in November 2007. The distinctive building is one of the district’s most significant architectural landmarks, not only because of its scale – it reaches the area’s maximum allowed height of 56 metres – but also because of its extraordinary exterior and interior design, created by leading Italian architects Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas.

A bamboo motif distinguishes the tower and is used across the façades, and is extended through the use of LED backlighting, accentuating the stylized line of the building’s gilt metal frame. Bamboo “leaves” are covered with a film of milky-white frosted plexiglas, draping the façade in a brilliant mantle of light.
