Today is TOMS One Day Without Shoes - go barefoot to help children in need

TOMS’ 5TH ANNUAL ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES
TO TAKE PLACE ON APRIL 10, 2012

Making a difference for millions of children around the world could be easy as taking off your shoes

On Tuesday 10th April, TOMS will ask the world to go without shoes for its annual One Day Without Shoes event. This is the day each year that TOMS (www.TOMS.co.uk) raises awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. Last year, people went without shoes at over 1,000 events in over 25 countries around the globe, and this year TOMS fans in London will have a chance to take part in barefoot activities and learn more at Southbank Centre on 10th April between 12 – 7pm.

Millions of children around the world live without proper footwear, exposing them to injury and disease every day. TOMS was founded on the premise that with every pair of shoes someone purchases, a pair of new shoes will be given to a child in need. One for One™. The idea of One Day Without Shoes came about as a way to call attention to the need for shoes around the world and the issues surrounding that need.

TOMS’ founder and chief shoe giver Blake Mycoskie said, “This movement is about raising awareness and asking people to do something – anything – without shoes. We are so eager to see the world’s participation this year. So, do what you normally do – just without shoes and help start the conversation.”

In London, TOMS will host a special event at the iconic Southbank Centre, and invites people to stop by on 10th April for a day of music, food, art & crafts and other barefoot happenings – including lots of great ‘one for one’ offers. The event will offer something for all ages, from Kids Hour with fun creative sessions at 2pm to Happy Hour at 6pm – where those that take their shoes off and attend barefoot at 6pm will be able to take advantage of free coffee, burritos, flowers and other treats while enjoying live music by Matthew and The Atlas. The event will finish with a barefoot walk towards The London Eye.

One Day Without Shoes participants can go to http://www.onedaywithoutshoes.com/  to get all the latest updates, create and join events in their area, download an event tool kit, upload photos and see what others around the world will do on April 10. Participants can also stay connected through the new One Day Without Shoes mobile application, available on iPhone and Android.
