GIORGIO ARMANI PRESENTS ONE NIGHT ONLY IN NEW YORK

Giorgio Armani is hosting tonight an event that will celebrate the special relationship between the designer, America, and the city of New York. After a four year absence, with his last official visit dating back to 2009 for the opening of the Armani/Fifth Avenue concept store, the designer is back to the Big Apple, the city that was the birthplace of his success in the States, and which honoured him in October 2000 with a retrospective exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum.

Giorgio Armani says, "Since the opening of my first store in New York in 1989, I've always had a loyal following in the city. A great show presenting my Haute Couture collections to the American public for the first time is my way of saying thank you. I'm looking forward to spending a memorable evening surrounded by the many friends I have made there over the years."

The special One Night Only New York event will take place at SuperPier, in the Meatpacking District
. A large part of the structure – no less than 9,000m2 – has been completely custom-designed for the occasion. One Night Only will be the last grand event before SuperPier is transformed into a multi-use retail experience.

The location will host a large scale fashion show exclusively dedicated to the Giorgio Armani Privé collections, which will be presented to more than 700 guests, including VIPs, socialites, dignitaries, US and foreign press. A collection of pieces from all Privé collections from 2005 to the present will be shown on the 87-metre-long catwalk. At the end, the entire Autumn/Winter Giorgio Armani Privé Nude collection, shown in July in Paris, will be presented. The show will be followed by an exclusive cocktail dînatoire party with DJ set by Mark Ronson.

The same location will also host the Eccentrico exhibition, which after Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Rome, arrives in New York with a new layout. It will be open to the public from October 25th-27th from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. A selection of pieces from the Giorgio Armani and Giorgio Armani Privé collections will be on display, featuring 54 sophisticated creations from 1985 to today, the fruit of the designer’s refined elegance and fantastic imagination, offering a new take on the Giorgio Armani world. The exhibition will also feature more than 300 accessories, including jewellery, shoes, bags and hats, as well as the exclusive Crystal and limited edition Armani Privé fragrances, in homage to the craftsmanship of Haute Parfumerie.

Giorgio Armani says, “I like America and the American people. Whenever I return, they show their admiration and affection toward me with incredible enthusiasm. This comforts and reassures me. There's spontaneity in my American audience, and they have such a sincere way of expressing admiration that, as a designer and entrepreneur, it encourages me to continue working with fantasy and commitment."

On the occasion of the event One Night Only in New York, the city's mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has officially proclaimed the Giorgio Armani Day, October 24th, for his longstanding relationship with the city of New York, for supporting the fund for public schools and contributing to the economy of the city of New York alongside the great influence made by Giorgio Armani on the international fashion industry.

With the Armani.com website, launched on 22nd October, the One Night Only New York event can be followed on armani.com/live -  the new Armani Live section, featuring special editorial content and daily updates around the event edited by Tim Banks of Style.com
