INTRODUCING LUXURY BRITISH-MADE LEATHER BAGS FROM BUCKITT

Leather goods designer and trend forecaster, Rae Jones, launches new accessories label

Shoe and Leather Goods Designer and WGSN Trend Forecaster Rae Jones has breathed new life into a formerly run-down British factory to design and manaufacture a new kind of leather bag for women, under her Buckitt label.

With Buckitt, Rae was inspired to create a hard-wearing, multi-purpose bag made from the finest highest-grade leather a bag smart enough to be upmarket yet tough enough to carry the groceries in.

As an experienced shoe and leather goods designer, Rae knew she wanted to hunt down the best of Britain’s surviving leather-working skills in order to create the collection. The factory she sourced - close to her native Manchester - not only has a century’s worth of leather goods manufacturing experience, but also the contacts necessary to source the best components and the highly-specialised craft skills to create the perfect bag.

The factory had previously faced closure as globalisation drove many of its former luxury goods clients to move production overseas, so by choosing to produce locally rather than outsource, Buckitt is playing a small but vital role in keeping increasingly rare craft skills alive in the UK.

Rae designed the Buckitt bag after becoming disillusioned at the sight of otherwise stylish women using grubby canvas totes (and even supermarket plastic bags!) to carry their belongings, whilst keeping their leather handbags for best.

The result blends functionality with simplicity and elegance. It's a beautiful yet durable bag that’s both practical enough for everyday use and smart enough for any situation. It can fit a laptop or groceries, yet is still effortlessly lightweight to carry, and with its detachable long leather strap it’s perfect for wearing across the body for cycling, with an internal pocket for your purse or keys.

Made of the finest, most durable Italian leather that only improves with age, the Buckitt bag is certain to become a heritage piece to be passed down with plenty of stories to tell. It’s designed to be reconditioned so that worn parts can be replaced in the future, and its vegetable-dyed leather even ensures that it’s eco-friendly.

The Buckitt bag range is presented as a core collection of eight colours including tan and classic black. Each season will see the introduction of new shades, textures and complementary accessories, with the additional option of a made-to-order Buckitt bag. This comes with an exclusive palette of leathers to choose which can be embossed with bronze foil, and is set to become an instant classic.
