Riona Treacy is a London based luxury womenswear brand. The Designer Riona who is originally from Belfast, studied Fashion and then completed her MA in Textiles, before moving to London to work with major brands within the industry like Alexander McQueen and Mary Katrantzou. Following this, Riona set up her self-titled label in 2012, where she has since been nominated as “One to Watch” in the Irish Fashion and Innovation Awards. Textiles are at the heart of the brand, where simplistic aesthetics paired with traditional dye processes, make her pieces modern, wearable and feminine.
All Riona Treacy pieces are designed and handmade in London, while all the fabrics are ethically sourced within the UK and Ireland. She works closely with her suppliers, and proudly supports the British and Irish manufacturing industries. Her collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, and bespoke commission pieces for private clients. Past collections such as ‘Lounge Disco’ and ‘The Island’ take on an asymmetric style. Her passion is to create designs for confident women who can make a bold statement with their image without the need to seek attention. Riona continuously subverts conventions with the exploration of alternative necklines and draping to create fascinating silhouettes. Riona’s extensive creativity can be highlighted in the versatility between her collections. The minimalist elegance of ‘Lounge Disco’ juxtaposed against the gothic eeriness of ‘Boy meets dress’ shows a deep investigation of geometric shapes and asymmetric lines in two completely different depths.
Taking inspiration from the working woman’s apron and blending this with modern tailoring, Riona Treacy’s AW19 collection celebrates hand dyed prints, using colours and textures that reference a traditional source of income, pulling from the marbling patterns on bank notes, and metallic tones of old coins. With the use pure wool, silk jersey, rich velvet and vegan leather, each piece has been designed to take the wearer elegantly from day to night or office to evening.
