The complexity and beauty of the moonphase display
Chinese New Year takes place next month. The date varies each year according with the Chinese lunisolar calendar. It normally takes place on the new moon closest to the beginning of spring (in the Northern Hemisphere), known as Lìchūn.
This year it will be on Tuesday 5 February. Festivities usually run for two weeks, from New Year’s Eve to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month. Celebrated not just in China but all over the world, every year is characterised by one of the 12 spirit animals of the Chinese zodiac. 2019 marks the Year of the Pig. The beast is associated with wealth, emotion and intuition. Its natural element is water. People born in one of the Years of the Pig – recently 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 or 2007 – are said to be realists. They are clever with money while enjoying life and are not afraid to treat themselves. This Chinese New Year Glashütte Original offers the perfect adornment to mark the celebrations.
A timelessly elegant classic under the sign of the moon: PanoMaticLunar
On the PanoMaticLunar the moon can be seen as clearly as on a star-bright night. The off-centre arrangement of hour and minute hands and the small seconds display characterises the model as a typical representative of the famous Pano line. As is the case with all creations from the German manufactory, the most refined manual labour and traditional watchmaking crafts are to be found at even the finest levels of detail. Nevertheless, it is the elaborately formed dials that first catch the eye: they are made with great care in the firm’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany.
The watch is available in a polished red gold version featuring an elegant matte black dial, and a dark blue version with a polished/satin-brushed stainless steel case. Depending on the case material the moon and stars are offset in silver or gold by dark blue or silver night skies. The inner beauty of the PanoMaticLunar models is more than a match for its design. They are powered by the Calibre 90-02, an automatic mechanical movement with a 42 hour power reserve. Through the sapphire crystal case back one can admire the finely worked movement presenting typical Glashütte features such as the three-quarter plate with striped finish, off-centre rotor, blued screws and hand-engraved balance bridge with duplex swan-neck fine adjustment.
