For the highly anticipated 7th Issue of LAW magazine the team behind the iconic bi-annual decided to focus their attention on ‘The Great Outdoors’ by celebrating the charming nature of Britain’s green and pleasant land.
For this exclusive editorial featured in Issue 7, LAW magazine worked with Italian sportswear giants Ellesse and documentary photographer Nina Manandhar to capture the positivity, hope and freedom of youth, by photographing two boyhood friends, flying homemade kites in blue skies over London.
Ellesse has always had a close association with British youth culture. In keeping with LAW’s exploration of romanticised youth rituals, this kite-flying story subtly plays with the casuals myth and the heritage connection between British and Italian youth.
Kites are emblematic of a sense of escapism, a route to elsewhere, across borders. Looking away into the city vista, a sense of possibility, open skies, freedom of movement, all positive motifs associated with the casual movement.
The coloured kites made in collaboration with set designer Joseph Bond represent both Ellesse flying the flag for quality Italian sportswear and the Italian brand being adopted by British youth culture.
Northala Park - London’s highest man-made hills – is situated right on the edge of the motorway out of West London, the vast undulating landscape, with its unrivalled metropolitan views and green swirling walkways was constructed using rubble from the original Wembley Stadium. Providing the perfect backdrop for a beautiful series of photographs accompanied by a short film that showcase pieces from Ellesse’s AW15 collection.
