The Fashion Film Festival Milano is back with a new edition – marking the second year of the international event founded and directed by Constanza Cavalli Etro.
The Festival will span three days – one day longer than the previous edition – on September 20, 21, and 22 at the Anteo spazio Cinema, the quintessential intellectual center for Milanese cinematography.
This initiative is not a mere festival, but rather a platform, a cross-cultural meeting point where fashion films from all over the world are on show as a testament to their authors’ personality and talent – whether new or established. An intersection of different points of view, aesthetic codes and narratives. The official selection took place through a completely free submission process: submissions totaled over 600 fashion films from 45 countries. The Festival’s artistic committee, under the direction of curator Gloria Maria Cappelletti, was entrusted with the selection process.
The Festival will boast higher quality in its second edition: new activities and collaborations as well as an international partnership. First and foremost is the collaboration with PARAMOUNT INTERNATIONAL, which will provide the Festival and its participants with worldwide exposure, through broadcasting on the Paramount Channel around the world. Moreover, it will promote FFFMilano’s idea to provide online users with the opportunity to vote online for their favorite fashion film from the official selection on the Festival’s website (from September 22-28) – the first initiative of its kind.
The Festival will also collaborate for the first time with global media brand NOWNESS. A dedicated room will host a special program of screenings consisting of upcoming exclusive premiers and short films from its celebrated archive. In addition, there will be a panel discussion with high profile guests from the film, fashion and design industries moderated by NOWNESS Editor in Chief Claudia Donaldson.
The other three rooms of the Anteo spazio Cinema will be respectively dedicated to the following programs and activities: the 2015 FFFMilano Official Selection Room will host the fashion films competing at the Festival, the Statement Room will feature talks and debates from several industry professionals, and finally there will be the 15 Seconds Room in which short fashion films lasting only 15 seconds – specifically created for the impromptu, fast speed of social networks – will be screened on rotation.
As for the competition, the international jury boasts prestigious names of leaders who have all contributed in their own way to the evolution of art, fashion, or film production.
The jury will include Franca Sozzani, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue; and Rankin, renowned fashion photographer, director, and founder of Dazed & Confused and Hunger. International director and photographer Bruno Aveillan, a pioneer in fashion filmmaking, will be also present, alongside director Lisa Immordino Vreeland who is known for films linked to fashion and art, such as her latest success ‘Art Addict,’ regarding the life of Peggy Guggenheim. Additional jury members are Mario Codognato, internationally renowned art curator and currently chief curator for 21er Haus of Vienna, and Sara Maino, Senior Editor of Vogue Italia and the mind and heart behind Vogue Talents.
This exceptional jury will be entrusted with the task of selecting the winners of the two categories: New Talent and Established Talent. Respectively for each category, a special prize will be appointed as follows: for the New Talent category “Best New Director,” “Best New Designer or Brand,” and “Best New Italian Fashion Film” will be awarded. For the second category, Established Talent, “Best Fashion Film,” “Best Statement Fashion Film,” “Best Established Director,” “Best Photography,” “Best Editing,” “Best Music,” “Best Art Direction,” “Best Styling” and “Best Production” and finally “Best Italian Fashion Film” will be awarded.
Among the on-going collaborations, Italian master Barnaba Fornasetti has once again created the award prizes for the Festival winners. International artist Macs Iotti has curated the graphic design as last year. And Guido Cella of Collateral Film has produced the fashion film “CHEA” that will be the manifesto for the Festival’s second edition, created and directed by Giulia Achenza, who won last year for “Best Italian Fashion Film.”
This edition will be a show full of creative energy – three days in which the audience will experience a dreamlike atmosphere at the Anteo. Both new and renowned talents will compete and will provide the city with a world of still-untold stories. On the evening of September 22, the Award Ceremony for the winners of the Competition will mark the culmination of the Milan Fashion Film Festival’s second edition.
