The Brantham double monk from Oliver Sweeney

The Brantham double monk strap brogue is a modern take on a classic shape. Using a round toed last and a Goodyear welted construction, it uses traditional brogueing and bold metal hardware. For a contemporary update, the Cobbler-in-Chief added contrasting surface textures and gimped edges, as well as a split, gimped welt to highlight the construction.

Legend has it that the monkstrap shoe originated in 15th Century European monasteries, and were popularised in England when the style was brought over by travelling ecclesiasts. More recently, monkstraps have been seen on everyone from James Bond to the streetstyle stars of Pitti, becoming a sartorial alternative to a more traditional lace-up.
