Robert Wilson Birthday Presented by Montblanc
On 29th September, Montblanc will present Robert Wilson's 70th birthday by supporting Voluptuous Panic, an art performance, auction and birthday dinner in Berlin benefitting the Watermill Center. Robert Wilson - director, visual artist, designer and cultural visionary - is a long-time friend of Montblanc. He has put his creative genius to work on numerous occasions to help bring to life the world of the international luxury brand.
Earlier this month, on September 8th 2011, at the global launch of the Montblanc “Collection Princesse Grace de Monaco”, Robert Wilson presented “Grace for Grace” a theatrical journey in three parts that tells the story of the incredible Princess Grace of Monaco's life from young actress to princess. The show staged at the Opera de Monte Carlo in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco, brings the 20th century icon to life with the elegance and style that she was recognized for. Great performers from opera star Diana Damrau to singer/songwriters Martha & Rufus Wainwright, from Bryn Terfel to Shenyang, all acted out this visual feast, lending their incredible talent to Wilson's inspiring vision.
Montblanc is very proud of its ongoing relationship with Robert Wilson, which goes far beyond a creative working relationship. It is a true friendship and a special bond. Wilson has used his unique talent of creating visual magic to bring the Montblanc brand to life, to dramatize the craft that Montblanc has become synonymous with over the past century, demonstrating his understanding of the Maison's ideals.
Prior to the Monaco launch, Wilson created “Writing Time” at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2008 in Geneva. The multimedia performance, set to the haunting music of his friend Philip Glass, celebrated the launch of the Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph, Montblanc's Chronograph with its first own in-house movement. 1000 guests were astounded by the breathtaking beauty of this spectacle, drawn into the centre of a working watch.
Robert Wilson has been an international juror for the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award a record four times, underscoring his dedication in recognizing modern day patrons whose commitment, both financial and personal commitment keeps arts alive, even in challenging times.
