David Longshaw launches new book
A-Z – A Fashionable Alphabet by Fashion Fascist ‘Fashion B’ aka Gertrude
David Longshaw has just released a new book in his popular series of fashionable tales for grown ups and the book is available to buy via Amazon
Meet the ridiculously named Fashion B' (real name Gertrude) and her sidekick Little Pap as they take us on an alphabetic fashion tour around their favourite London sights, shops and fashion spots. Posing in an A-line dress for the letter A, 'Fashion B' then forms the letter B whilst wearing a Belt, standing on a Bag on top of a London Bus in front of Big Ben (yes that is a lot of B). After B comes C obviously. 'Fashion B' poses as C in a corset/coat combo in front of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design hoping to discover the next big fashion star and gets Ruffled posing as the letter R in front of the Royal College of Art.
David is known for his quirky illustrations featuring his
characters Maude, Doris and Beryl the badger
amongst others; his characters are immortalized in
the prints for his eponymous womenswear collection, as well as appearing in animations
for Vogue Italia and Love Magazine. This book joins five previous stories, which were
created to meet the demand from David’s customers who craved more of his drawings
and characters. David’s first character Maude was originally created whilst he was at
Central St Martins and has been described by British Vogue as “‘Longshaw’s long
standing cult creation.”
David Longshaw studied Fashion Design at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design BA (Hons) and at the Royal College of Art (MA). On graduating David moved to Italy to design for Alberta Ferretti, then Max Mara. After working in Italy Longshaw moved back to England to start his own fashion label. Winner of the inaugural BFC/ELLE Talent Launch Pad. David has been shortlisted for a wealth of awards and was named as one of the ‘Designers to Watch 2011’ by vogue.com and one of ‘The Rising Stars of 2011’ by Elle. With not only a natural talent for fashion, but also for illustration (winner of the Colin Barnes Drawing Prize) David has contributed to a number of publications (including vogue.com, the LFW newspaper and many others) and uses his illustrations and story writing as a starting point for his collections. He has also created ‘Francesca & Arthur’ a weekly comic strip for Vogue Italia (vogue.it) and a number of animations for LOVE magazine.
